Default Costs

Hi,

I am currently living in New Zealand and have been offered a position in Detroit. I am trying to work out whether to take it or not.

Aside from trying to work out where to live and how much that will cost I am trying to work out other major costs.

The job is in Bloomfield Hills, from reading all the previous threads it seems that public transport in Detroit is poor. That said are there any public transport options to get to Bloomfield Hills from an area like Birmingham (I am trying to avoid needing a 2nd car)? The office is on S Telegraph Rd.

Are there any extra costs that I should be aware of when renting a house? In NZ in addition to the house rental there are water bills that the renter has to pay. I saw somewhere a mention of snow removal?? Any taxes, etc?

Any other costs that I should be aware of? eg. Heating bills in winter?

Thanks

you need a car. Just buy a cheap one and sell it when you leave.

Most rentals do not include furniture and appliances (fridge and microwave).

Utility costs are high in the winter it shoud not be too bad for a small house/apartment. Some rentals include your gas and electricity.

You telephone bill will be high.
