I'm a 22 year old who is originally from St. Clair Shores, both my parents were born and raised there and pretty much all my family still resides in either Macomb or Oakland Co. I have lived a few places in the South since then and am looking to move to the North again. With the decline of the Michigan econemy, I am wondering should I really move back there? Could I make it? My relatives have not been affected personally by the decline but reading threads on the net and just been aware of the situation... should I consider it? I like the area and it would be nice to be near my relatives so....

What kind of work do you do? If you can get a job that pays what you need, then you will make it just fine. Jobs are not that scarce for those with marketable skills or those willing to work service jobs.

Find a job before you move, or stay with relatives and find a job and then move.

I have a Finance degree and have a background in office managment. It was my understading that even people with bachelor's and master's were working service and retail jobs for low pay. Is that true? I am trying to weed out the truth from possibly some individuals maybe just down on the area?

There are probably people with bachelor's and master's degrees working in low paying retail jobs, but that is a tiny minority and there are specific reasons for that (e.g., degree in field with few or hard to get jobs or they aren't trying very hard).
There are plenty of businesses offering positions like yours. Have you looked into any of the online job sites? It is a little tougher when you're coming right out of school with minimal experience (I'm assuming, based on your age), but apply to a few jobs online and see what kind of response you get. |
