I find it very hard to believe that anyone has seen anything rough about downtown Farmington. That makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Having driven through some of the communities (Chatham Hills, Drakeshire), I can kinda see why they are cheaper. Definitely smaller (as it happens, that's a positive for me), definitely older (I tend to prefer newer cookie-cutter places over "character"), but apparently also very desirable (Drakeshire has a waiting list). Going to try to look at Jamestown and Chatham Hills next week - unfortunately nobody is around on weekends.

Chatham hills has a garage under the units for some of the buildings which was cool when I looked at them, one coin operated washer/dyer per building (8 units I think it was? ) and one water heater per building. They seemed otherwise nice though. I've heard Jamestown is nice but as they had no openings for a 1 bedroom near when I needed to relocate for a job I didn't check them out. I would be interesting to know what they're like.

FWIW, a pretty disturbing abduction happened in a Farmington Hills apartment complex at 9 and Drake the other week: 'You gotta die,' carjackers told Farmington Hills woman

Very disturbing. Fortunately the two attackers have been caught. Situations like this are exceedingly rare, but anyone in any apartment complex needs to be very alert and aware of their surroundings. It's good to have someone expecting you home, who will look out for you, especially after dark.
Even in a single home situation, in any neighborhood, watch out for someone following you home.

Ended up renting on the high side of my price range - right on the FH/WB border, walking distance from the Whole Foods. Well, 20-minute walking distance but still.
