I am being temporarily relocated from Texas to Detroit for the next 9 months after the Labor Day Holiday. I have been looking for an apartment in the suburbs but have been overwhelmed by the sprawl. I have never been to Detroit, but will be flying up next week to tour a few places. I was hoping the kind folks here might be able to help me narrow my search. I am a male in my late 20's and will be working downtown. I was looking for a one bedroom in the suburbs as my wife and young son will be visiting me 2-3 times per month for 3-4 days at a time. My budget is $800-$1000 per month. We are looking for a safe, somewhat walkable area with lots of parks, as we spend much of our free time outdoors. Ideally, I would like to be within 30 minutes of downtown. I would also prefer to be within a half hour of the airport as well if possible. One of my main concerns is the winter in Detroit. I have lived a few winters in Colorado, but from what I hear that is nothing compared to Michigan. I am assuming the roads are kept up so a 20 or so mile commute to downtown should not be an issue, correct? Hopefully I have given enough information to narrow down the search and not described all of the Detroit area suburbs. If there are any apartment dwellers here that love their complex, or if you know someone who is very happy with their apartment, please pass that information along as well. Looking forward to seeing what Michigan is all about!

Midtown or downtown would be ideal.

Otherwise Grosse Pointe should be your pick - stunning resident only parks on the water - every amenity known to man. 15 minute commute to office downtown. Right on 94 for getting to airport. Congrats on the new gig!
