Haha yes, about those previous posts. They were not factual, I was like 15 and was really curious as to what different places were like. However, this is the real deal and I appreciate you bringing that up for clarification purposes.

Not true if you graduate from a highly selective institution such as U of M. The ROI on degrees from top tier schools is proven to be higher -- even with debt factored in.

If you are set on going pre-med, I would compare the acceptance rates into Med schools.

If a hypothetical person (like this one) "blows them away" with top grades, research and commendations, as well as great interview...they would get into medical school. No need to rack up major debt at this point; that will come later if attending med school.

Yes, I would agree. If med school is the plan then go to WSU. Focus on your grades and research and you shouldn't have a problem with med school.

You also might want to consider U of M - Dearborn or Flint. Perhaps its cheaper than Ann Arbor. Then you can transfer your second year to Ann Arbor and get your degree from there. A lot of people do that who cannot get into Ann Arbor at first.

I appeciate everybody's replies. This past week I was able to visit both schools and was actually more impressed by Wayne State. I'm still waiting on a few more scholarships from them to make my final decision, but that is the way I'm leaning as of now. Again, thank you all.

Wayne State recently unveiled their new Medi-Direct Scholarship program which will cover 100% of Undergrad Tuition, 100% of Undergrad Housing, and 100% of Med School Tuition. I don't know if entering students apply directly for this program, or if the scholarship is bestowed upon qualifying students who are planning to major in Pre-Med.

See story at link.

Wayne State offers chance at free medical education

Our son is currently a Second Year student in the WSU School Of Medicine.

if you go by median ACT scores and by university rankings, UM-Dearborn is straight up better than either of these schools

Wayne State hands down. Do very well at Wayne and you can go to a Tier I research university for grad or professional school, if that's what you want to do.
