5) West Bloomfield
6) Bloomfield Hills
7) Birmingham

8) Oakland Twp
9) Sections of Farmington Hills

It is interesting how much of the conversation about "rich area" always revolves around Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham yet they didn't make the top 5 list. I am surprise by Northville being so high and same with Grosse Ille (I always thought it was some crazy island for "rich wanna be" people to live in, guess I was wrong they aren't "wanna be")

If you look closely, you'll note that belleislerunner did say that the list isn't ordered.

Zip codes don't always correspond with communities that people think of as rich areas. Some zip codes are huge and have a lot of wealth concentrated in one area, while the rest might be just upper middle class.

I'm noticing a trend..anyone who tells the truth on this forum is labeled a troll . What Bimmerfanboy said is correct. There are pockets of wealth everywhere including Michigan but the majority of wealthy people live on the West and East coasts. Going off of the responses you would think Michiganders can't handle reality...wait a minute

Of course, there's nothing in this thread that remotely bears any relevance to anywhere else other than the mention suburb in the thread title. Whatever 'truth' is being stated about Michigan is completely irrelevant to the point of the thread.

Well no citylover89, bimmerfanboy was trolling because every one of his posts in every Michigan thread was just complaining about how bad Michigan was. It's just trolling and trying to bait people into fights. He was essentially saying the discussion was pointless. In essence I was giving him a soft warning.

If you think that people in the Michigan or Detroit forums do not discuss the "truth" enough, then you haven't been on here very long. Let me know if you need any other assistance with forum definitions.

I agree and disagree. We all know the majority of the wealth is on the coast. But Detroit still has it's fair share of wealth. According to this number of millionaires chart Looking for Millionaires? Try These U.S. Cities. - Total Return - WSJ the only cities with a similar size of Detroit that have alot more millionaires are SF and DC. The other two cities similar to Detroit's size (Philly and Boston) are only slightly higher. It seems that Detroit's "small pockets" do quite well for itself considering it's a relatively low COL blue collar city. It's actually quite impressive. Adjust that for COL and you only need to have $541,268.95 in Detroit to live like your have $1,000,000 in SF.

But your right... who cares if the coast has more rich people? (despite it's inflated COL and shameful income gap). Most people in Metro Detroit could care less about how many pockets of wealth are on the coast.

What about Miami/Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta and all of those cities in Texas (Houston, Austin, Dallas), and Phoenix. What about Colorado, with Denver and all of those exclusive mountain/skiing communities like Aspen. Very, very wealthy people live in those places as well!

There is lot of wealth in Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul, too. I think the Twin Cities have more than 10 Fortune 500 Companies (Target, 3M, General Mills, etc).

And if there is no wealth in Southeastern Michigan, how can all of these people afford boats and houses "up north" on some of the 10,000 lakes that are in Michigan?

You can see wealth and mansions in Franklin, Bingham Farms, Birmingham, Royal Oak, Bloomfield (township, city, hills), 4 of the Grosse Pointes, Oakland Township, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Orchard Lakes and all of those Oakland County "Lake Communities", Plymouth (city and township) Dearborn (Michigan Ave and Telegraph), Northville, Novi, Canton, Grosse Isle, St. Clair Shores , and even Detroit (Boston-Edison, Indian Village, Palmer Woods and Joseph Berry Subdivision)

Well the wealth on the coasts doesn't even come close to comparing to the wealth of the Saudi family, or the Chinese and Russian aristocracy. I mean, why talk about wealth or poverty at all because there's always someone who has more or who has less. What's the point of having these discussions at all. Why even have an online forum at all.

As I said, ignore the trolls.

To me, "snob factor" regarding a city is constant bragging as if residence there were a status symbol. In my experience, Birmingham residents are the second worst offenders in the state behind only Grosse Pointe residents. Most Birmingham and Grosse Pointe residents can't tell you quick enough about where they live.
