I'll probably go back to Memphis Smoke in RO if I have a craving for BBQ. I actually ate chicken when I was there years ago. It'd also be nice to hear some live music next time. |

Anyway, it's just one restaurant, not a big deal. I always eat chicken there. I guess I'm not really a BBQ person either, I just love the sauce. |

IMHO, Slow's is better than Memphis Smoke, especially the side dishes and sauce. It's true, though, that you really can't go to Slow's on the weekend, especially if there is a hockey game or something going on. And don't worry about 'upscale' and 'vegetarian' barbecue. They do all kinds of real barbecue and there is nothing really pretentious about it. I just wish they served their bacon and ham as parts of main dishes and not just sandwiches.
As for the earlier comment regarding too much skin on the pork I found that somewhat ironic because I love skin on my pork bbq, but to each his own I guess. Cliffe Belle's is definitely it for live music, but there are many other venues too. If you don't want to pay a big cover you can go to Bert's on Eastern Market or Jazz Cafe downstairs at the Music Hall. And that's just in the downtown area - there are myriad venues elsewhere as well. |

Pizzapapalis - Even after eating at Pizzeria Uno in Chicago I still prefer Pizzapapalis. Layfette Coney is good but I miss the original Senate Coney Island on Michigan Avenue.

hands down PizzaPapalis Greektown is the best deep dish pizza in the USA. I Live on the east coast and its a "must dine at" when I'm in town. Also the majestic on Woodward in midtown..love that place..awesome vibe!! I know I'm gonna get yelled at for mentioning suburban restaurants but they are both very "Detroit" b/c of their reputations. Miller's in Dearborn has amazing hamburgers(the only thing on the menu is burgers, fries and onion rings) and they are regularly nationally recognized(Maxim, MSNBC, etc...) and a little dive in Livonia and Dearborn Heights called The Bone Yard. Best ribs I've ever had(not baby back, you have to work to eat these!!)I've been to all the BBQ capitals(Memphis, Kansas City, all over Texas) and these are still my fav!!

And you were holding out on us?! Just kidding. With the millions of burger joints out there and most of them quite adequate, it is really hard to make a standout burger so I am going to have to check this place out. Thanks for the info.
