Default Detroit coucil requests that Mayor should resign

Here's the story Detroit News Online | Thursday, February 28, 2008

Look out for a 'showdown' with Kwame Kilpatrick and Detroit city council.

I would certainly believe that he won't resign out of goodwill and drag the Detro-metro area another step or few years, for that matter, behind with his polarizing view. It'l be the same ole city versus suburbs, black versus white and so forth.

It's a shame for the city of Detroit.

What are your thoughts on what's to happen?

He's taken lessons from Clinton's book of how to hoodwink the public and will not do the honorable thing: resign. Not sure on whether he will be removed, but he certainly ought to be. Sad to say, but outside of Michigan people think of Detroit as being the whole of Michigan and Detroit is now the laughing stock of the state. And now Nightline (or is it Dateline?) will have a piece on the Grant murder tonight.

Kwame needs to go to jail, not just lose his job.

I don't understand how anyone could still support him.

I agree -- he needs to go to jail! But I doubt that he will.

I am actually kind of creeped out by his constant denial. He is still claiming there was no secret document when in fact, the secret document has been released...And the fact that he plays the 'Detroit, I will not give up on you' card...What the heck? The entire city is begging this man to step down. Does he not see this? If he truely 'loved' this city and wants to see this city move forward, then he needs to be removed.
I hope city council moves quickly and keeps the interest of the city and the people who live here in mind as they deal with this ghetto fab mayor.

The $8million seems like nothing compared to the $29million from 2006 and the $29million from 2007 that the city missed out on because they didn't turn in the books on time. I don't think they have turned in 2007's yet. Who knows how much more there is thats hidden from public view. I don't know if the city gets that if they turn in the records late or not but they sure must be messed up to miss out on that much $. Lets see,$ 66,000,000. hmm. It probably would have been used on something or somebody other than the PEOPLE of Detroit anyways.I may be wrong on the years 2006-2007. It may have been 2005-2006.
Even the Black Mayors Convention wants nothing to do with KK. Cost the city more. I may not be from Detroit but I pay taxes and tax dollars from the Feds and state seem to go there so I feel I can put in my 2 cents.

I figured he had already resigned. Surely something as embarassing as he went through would drive anyone to resign.

Anyone with a CONSCIENCE would resign. He, apparently, has none.

He should have at least tried to be an honorable person and just resigned. Now it's just a joke.

I'm pretty new to the area, but I wasn't surprised that he didn't resign. I agree, he SHOULD have. But he seems WAY too arrogant and "above the law" to ever admit fault and/or resign.

The fact that anyone thinks he is genuine or honorable is just baffling to me. And quite frankly, the way he is "protected" is unreal, too. I am from a bigger city than Detroit, and the mayor there lived in her own home, and didn't have body guards out the wazoo like Kwame has. And trust me, my city was ranked about second or third behind Detroit in terms of crime. The Kwame regime just seems to thrive on intimidation and bullying...which always seems suspicious, and often times doesn't even make sense. Sorry, but as an outsider looking in...it's embarrassing. Even the news reporters seem embarrassed by how RIDICULOUS it all is.

It's too bad. Detroit is a cool place, and it could be a lot better if it had a mayor that REALLY wanted to make a difference. IMO, all Kwame does is take, take, and take from the city and its tax payers. Sad.
