I will have to go search around IV and see what i can find. Maybe next time we have guests who want to see the splendor of Detroit's history, I will take them there instead.

THis is the house we considered buying for a moment of foolishness:

It was in the $450,000 - $500,000 range at the time. We considered what was needed over time to fix it up, it was livable but needed work. We had schools figured out, security, etc. However we did not factor in the cost of heating 18,0000 s.f., or the absurd Detroit property taxes (we were moving from California).

Yeowwww! Rather ostentatious.

Yes but really awesome. We love historical homes and this house has everything. Secret rooms, pewabic tile, parquet hardwood floors, stained glass, multiple grand stairways, liquor vaults from prohibition, rooms to entertian 50 or 100 people, fireplaces all over the place, a key cabinet with 150 different keys (ok so that one is a PIA). I think it had a ballroom.

One of our concerns with the location was where you our kids go to play and ride bikes - heck they could just ride their bikes around the house, they would need them.

My idea was to have a place where my parents could move in when they got older so they were not out on their rural three acre property, our kids could bring their families visit or even live with us if necessary. most of all it is just cool to have a house that has significant and recorded history.

Frankly I would like to see it opened up for many people to enjoy, maybe as a B & B or something. As long as they did not go and "modernize" (i.e. ruin) it

Might make a nice B & B. Looks rather scary, but again different strokes. It was the era, I guess. Fascinating to look through these old places and imagine what life was like back then.
