Actually, for what it's worth, I have never been to Greenfield Village on a weekend and not heard a number of different languages.
Belle Isle, in the winter, is amazing. Oldest aquarium in the U.S. And the architecture of several building on the island is very impressive.
The Europeans had a culture that supported rebuilding... not resented it.

Aquarium is closed on Belle Isle, along with everything except the Dossin Great Lakes Museum.

*sigh* That's sadder to hear than taxes being raised... Detroit just will not work for **** that's good, will they? I suppose it's someone else's fault... couldn't be the city government they elect or the culture...
It's such a beautiful place. It's like hearing about an old family member having a stroke... you know it's going, but it's hard to accept...

It was a rhetorical question. Besides, last time I checked, the vast majority of the people in MI and detroit Metro are of European descent. Before you are more obvious in pointing your finger at black people, most European cities have a large minority population of blacks, midddle easterners, gypsies, etc and they have been rebuilding quite fine for the past fifty years. Could it perhaps partially be the attitude of many of the WHITE people in metro Detroit has something to do with Detroit's situation also? It takes two to tango and metro Detroit is awfully good at it.

I believe you have to differentiate between Europeans post-WWII and those of European descent. The culture of a person who's spent thirty years in the States isn't going to be the same as that of someone who's actually European. (As opposed to "descended.")
With this in mind, I'm sure you can see it was a reference to culture as it related to a time and place and not contingent on the individuals involved.
When I speak of Detroit, I don't differentiate between whites or blacks within the city limits.
Further, the question you posed, rhetorical-- intending to advance a concept-- or not, has recently been demonstrated. Engler tried to move in and rebuild the schools for them. However, they really did resent it.
Could you imagine if the news was reporting the French calling FDR a "slave master" trying to get his "property under control" and the like?
You asked the question. I answered.

I'd call all of those people European if they live in Europe. I don't get your point.

I'm open-minded. If you think that some white people have done something to Detroit, I'd be happy to consider your theory or evidence. As it stands, I don't see how it could be because of the suburbs. (I assume that's what you mean by "white.")
However, the last statement about the tango, I don't get. If I own a business (a city) and I'm doing well, I don't think anyone would accuse me of doing anything wrong because I refuse to become partners with my competition down the street who is doing poorly.

I wouldn't be offended if these posts were transferred into a different thread.

Oh and I know the casino (not related to gambling) is still open there for various events. Very beautiful. And I'm not sure if the conservatory is still open.

Absolutely people visit here..Where do I begin? We have the nightlife if your into that there are a ton of places u can go to here's a link to clubs and bars A5*-*After 5. Also there's the Architecture and Culture provided in Midtown. For example the D.I.A on the top museums in the country. The Detroit Science Center, and the Historical museum all in the same area which is Midtown. I Love it here, its something to do all year round..All the the festivals in Midtown and Downtown, my favorite is the Detroit Festivals of Arts. That is also in Midtown and the diversity here is key as well, with the Professionals and Colleges students there is a healthy mix. Let's not forget about the restuarants in the area and coffee shoppes. Here's a link about Midtown UCCA | University Cultural Center Association. Ok I covered Midtown now its Downtown next. If your interest is someplace with History and Beauty then Downtown is it..The Riverfront is Absolutely Beautiful, and they concerts in the summer there and Hart Plaza, which its home to the International Jazz fest. Here's a link to one of many activities they have along the Riverfront The world is coming - Get in The Game. I will post more if you need more information. Here are more links to check out. I want to visit Detroit. I am planing on it this summer and then planning on coming back in January to attend Wayne State. Yes, people do visit Detroit. Maybe not as many as we want to, but more and more people are.
