I've been to Detroit twice now since October. I'm headed up again in a few weeks to keep looking for a job and a crappy apartment.

I'm gonna need a place to stay for a while. Any ideas on a monthly rate, no frills motel? Not as worried about crime as I probably should be.

The only soul I know up there lives in Royal Oak. So I'd like to stay somewhat close to that area.

Thanks!

Nothing specific but I suggest you look in Ferndale for both of your needs (hotel and apartment).

I don't pretend to know Ferndale other than news bits and social media but it never struck me as a place you would find monthly rate dive motels.

Macomb County is cheaper than Oakland County, so more N than NW. The Dequindre at I-696 hotel cluster on the Macomb/Oakland border is known as a semi-red light district, so that is probably dive enough.

There are a few left on Woodward in Royal Oak. Most are gone, 1 is under renovation. there are 2 on 8 Mile at Woodward in Ferndale. Very seedy but Ferndale police will show up quickly should any problem arise. There are a few long-term hotels in Madison Heights. 1 on the west side of Stephenson, just south of 14 Mile. Another is Red Roof Inn on Concord, south of 14 mile. All right near Royal Oak. as mentioned, 696/Dequindre. The awful Knghts Inn on the Madison Heights side, and another Red Roof on the Warren side. John R motel in Madison Heights-2-3 miles from downtown RO
