Default What Were Your Favorite Downtown Detroit Restaurants?

All of this talk about a light rail system going downtown got me thinking about all of the restaurants that brought me downtown that are no longer there. Here are some of my fond memories:

Joe Muer's - Poached haddock with mustard sauce was my favorite. Some clams to start the meal, and Cognac as an after dinner drink. Oh My God!

The Brauhaus - A German restaurant a block south of Jefferson. Augie ran the place and had an incredible combination plate. If you were a light beer drinker and thought you were hot stuff, you would be staggering out of his place after a couple of real dark beers. And to top it off, they had a really stihnky cheese for dessert with apples on crackers. Yum!

The Caucus Club - Across from the Chopper where the police chief would go after work for cocktails. They had the best baby back ribs in the world. The ceasar salad made at the table was to die for.

Then there was this neat reataurant which was torn down just east of the I-75 connector. This was a really special cozy place.

Man, those places would get me on light rail if they were still there!

You will be happy to know, then, that the Caucus Club, where Barbara Streisand performed before she became really famous, is still alive and well in the Penobscot bldg. (on the side not the high rise part), and they still have those ribs. And Chris the bartender mixes some mean cocktales. I saw Geoffrey Fieger in there one night not too long ago!
