Default 50+ year old couple need 3-day vacation. HELP!

My mother has given me the undaunting task of finding her a 3 day get away for June 20- 23. She live in Chicago burbs and is willing to drive up to 5 hours. She does not want to fly. She is in her late 50's and will be traveling with her beau.

They like jazz and blues, and want some culture (if you know what I mean ). She want to go somewhere that have a lot of activities.

I'm thinking a nice jazz club/restaurant for one of the nights. Nice hotel. I'm trying to find her something different, fun and affordable.

Anyone have any suggestions please?

I've never been but I think the B.O.B. in Grand Rapids has some jazz type stuff.

This will probably list performers and when they are performing.
The B.O.B. - Grand Rapids, Michigan

I also think there is some sort of jazz club in Detroit also. Either way if you went to GR or Detroit you could find more than enough to do for three days.

Mackinac doesn't really have any sort of jazz type attractions, plus that's easily 6+ hours.

Not sure if you're still looking, but if you are suggesting that they visit downtown Detroit...a few places to google would be the Cliff Bell (Heard GREAT things about it), Jazz Loft, SereNgeti Ballroom, They Say, Baker's Keyboard and Lounge (historic land mark located in the city), or Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak (a Suburb of Detroit).
