Default banking

Coming from Canada, i have been told that banking is totally different there...sooooo in the Oakland county area (if this statement is even applicable) can anyone give me some names of long standing, reputable banks that I can investigate on my first ever visit there this weekend (btw, my hubby will go through Sarnia instead of downtown detroit, I think he's afraid I will change my mind lol)

Sarnia/Port Huron at the Blue Water Bridge gives you more hassle in my experience. Port Huron is a beautiful city, Detroit is fine. You wouldn't change your mind just by seeing it. Trust me.

The big banks here are Comerica, Bank of America (formerly LaSalle), Chase, Fifth Third, and a more local based bank, Flagstar; Citizen's is also local. They all do pretty much the same thing. A lot of people choose credit unions over banks.

FWIW, I think downtown Detroit is great. I don't think it would make you change your mind at all! You should see it.

thanks for the info -- buy why credit unions??? Curious...I plan on giving my real estate agent the third degree on it

lol -- yes I think I should go through Detroit as well, he travels there weekly and has been for months so not sure what his reasoning is....I doubt very much that seeing it will deter me - not that we could change our minds anyhow

Thanks

Is there National City Bank in Detroit? I'm moving to Detroit in a year, and would prefer to stay with them because my family has ties to National City.
