Default Is Redford that bad?

I might be renting a place in Redford that is north of 6 mile rd and west of telegraph. After reading threads on this forum I'm getting kinda scared.

Or another I saw was in Dearborn Heights (south Dearborn Heights, east of Telegraph) We've narrowed it down and are going over the positives and negatives.

My dad grew up right there, on Brady which is the first street into Redford, since Five Points is the border there, further south it's Telegraph, then Riverdale or something. It's very working class, but a lot of people do keep their houses up and I always see lots of younger families there. I would have no problem living there. South Heights is very similar homes and people. Neither area is stellar, but pretty safe. Schools are not great...Redford Union. I actually find that particular part of north Redford to be one of the better, good mix of people, decent houses. A lot of the east-west cross streets, (Santa Maria, Bennett, Curtis, Pickford, Margareta, Clarita), and some north-south (Garfield) are still unpaved in parts, though at one point all of the streets were, so that's improvement. South Dearborn Heights tends to look better towards Dartmouth, and the worst toward the point where Southfield and Van Born hit together there, as well as along the Ecorse Creek. Different neighborhoods have different "flavors" there, as does Redford. I know some people that live in Redford over there, the closest one in that area on Sumner, he has never had a problem.

Uh-oh now I'm scared...heard that Redford is pretty bad (crime, rats, cops ticketing to make quota, corrupt city council) The house we were looking at is on Brady (west of telegraph and north of 6 mile)

Rats I couldn't tell you about. Don't know. Quite a few communities are having rat problems, Allen Park immediately comes to mind.

Like I said in the PM, there is going to be some crime there. Brady is one street into Redford from Detroit. I think it's a perfectly fine place to live. Not the nicest, but not the worst.

Cops do do some weird things there to make quota....the one I've heard is a lot of parking lots that do some kind of thing with towing cars. My dad's friend works for Redford Towing. But I park in lots of parking lots in Redford, no problem. I know several people that live there. It's a working class burb that gets a worse rep than it deserves.
