What area of Detroit? (if you don't mind me asking)

Xochimicos has gone downhill over the years.(IMHO) The new good mexican restaurant is Los Galanes.

....some more memories....

Greektown-remember when it was Trappers Alley before they made it a casino.

Lafeyette Coney Island-this place is a mecca for Detroiters.

The deers on Belle Isle.

They lived in several places but one area was 7 mille and mount elliot. My grandma grew up in Detroit, as did my mom until she was in high school - then they also fled to the suburbs.

Doesn't surprise me that Xochimicos has went downhill. It's been years since I was there but I used to love that place.

Yes, I remember Trappers Alley before the casinos moved in...

I asked my Dad this question since he's proud to be from MI. He's 81 years young now, but this is what he had to say--
When we lived in Flint, MI (1930s), I remember an annual trip to Belle Isle for a picnic. I, also remember another annual trip to go Christmas shopping at Hudson's large department store.
When we settled in Pontiac (1930-40s), I remember going to an aunt and uncle's for Thanksgiving dinner ... after dinner we would walk across the street to the Univ. of Detroit stadium to watch the football game between the Lions and the Chicago Bears.
At the tail end of our honeymoon (1948) we went into Detroit. We stayed at the Statler Hotel and went to the London Chop House for dinner and dancing.
Always thought Detroit was a fun place to go out on weekend nights (1950s) to spend time dancing and listening to jazz music at many bars.
All are deeply etched in my mind.

Good post grammy164! (tell your dad!)

I remembered when the Chop House closed!

I never knew the Lions played at University of Detroit's stadium! (learn something new all the time)

Ironic thing is that Detroit used to be like Chicago(present-day time) before Chicago was ever a "major-league" city. I remember not ever wanting to go to Chicago because i thought it would like Detroit, was i ever in for a surprise!
