Are you sure it was a wood stove?? The one that was there 20+ years ago was ancient itself. It was a gas furnace in the middle of the room vented into the chimney with an exposed vent pipe:

Here's one of Tom when you were in High School....(Just KIDDING Maxine...I believe that's a '37 Ford)

That stove DOES look familiar, so does the 1937 Ford. That was a mighty good year

Sure. Patton Park swimming lessons.
Fishing on the Detoilet river and catching weird worms.
Fishing around the nuke plant in Monroe b/c the water was warmer.
Going to my aunts house by Tiger Stadium and seeing all these Cadillacs in front of houses that should have been condemmed and the kids dressed in rags but they had a Caddy. My friend catching Hep from swimming in the Detoilet River.
Being pulled over by a cop and being told with a gun in my face "we don't want white people here."
Loose women.
PUKE.

I'm not from Detroit but I grew up in Union Lake. I remember being at Tiger Stadium when they clinched the division and the pennant in 1984. I remember Milky the Clown. His magic words were Twin Pines! As a little girl I remember my mom taking me to the Silvercup Bakery and getting one of those tiny loaves of bread. She'd make me sandwiches for 2 or 3 days. I remember going to Boblo at least once a summer right up through college. And Captain Boblo.
I have been trading memories with a friend in Atlanta. He also grew up here. It's a lot of fun.

Default The Post Bar

Does anyone remember a shoe box of a bar called "The Post?" Last I heard, the entire block was demolished years ago to make way for something else. For the life of me I can't remember where it was.

Yes, I do -- it was February 1, 2000. I remember it because the company I worked for were called in to access the damage and I became the lead designer for the replacement boilers.

Yes, I remember it.
We used to take our daughter there for the beautiful Christmas displays and to visit Santa. She will be 50 in a few weeks.
Anybody remember the year it was built and the year that it burned? That was a shame.
