Anybody remember the year it was built and the year that it burned? That was a shame.
I'm not sure about when it was built -- it was moved from one of the World's Fairs and it was in the 50's, I think. But it burned in 1965 -- I remember that because I was a senior in high school and saw the smoke from my house right next to Oakwood Hospital.

Wow! I didn't know the Rotunda had been moved there.
I know the big tire on I-94 was a Ferris Wheel moved there from a World's Fair (1939?)

I just Googled it and it was back from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. Reopened June 16, 1953 as part of Ford's 50th anniversary celebration.
The article says it burned in 1962. I don't remember when, but it was sad.

You're probably right about the year -- I know I was in high school. If it was 1962, then it was the year that I started high school, not the year I graduated. Thank you for the correction.

That was a strange one to go into after a night of partying, reeking of alcohol, only to sit side by side or near Detroit Police officers. The place is so tiny that it's nearly impossible to entirely avoid the officers. I tried to stay away from that one in the wee hours of the morning.

I agree with you, though, on it being better than both of the coney islands downtown.

Another memory: hanging/eating out at the White Castle knock-off over by Martin and Michigan Ave. (can't remember the name of it, though...)

I remember giving this lady a ride back to her place of employment and every time she would cross the Detroit border(which was around/into Dearborn), she would say a little prayer with a motion of a cross with her hand over her chest.

That would be Telway, much better than W.C. For a number of years there was a Rally's, I think, next door. Bad idea to locate next to a Detroit original like Telways. Rally's couldn't hang and is now boarded up.
