Why is Detroit About 80% African American? (Dearborn, Southfield: crimes, place to live, safety)

Augusta isn't bad. I was stationed at Fort Gordon and I think the military presence might have something to do with it. You do see a good deal of interaction between Blacks and Whites there. Did you go to Glenn Hills for high school, btw?

a good point brought up in a previous discussion, was the fact that detroit could be called a "ghetto". Usually a minority is "forced" into a ghetto, whether they know it or not.

You wanna hear why? It's likely because MI is the "north", black people were welcomed and pretty decent automotive line jobs were plentiful. People stayed, raised families,their kids got jobs, raised families, etc.

You must not be from Detroit because there are many hispanic people in south west Detroit and it's predomintely black because most white detroits left in a manner called white flight, and yes to be a mojor U.S city Detroit is really cheap.

Thank Henry Ford; he hired many Black auto workers, partly because he felt Blacks would not be conducive to Unions.

No one talks about the fact that in many neighborhoods people are life family and children are raised by the entire block not just there own parents. Thanks for saying this Tina -- I grew up on the East side and my white dad worked primarily for Black clients. The hate and fear directed at Detroits -- and this always means Detroit's black population, as near as I can tell -- is largely nonsense. The violent crime rate there continues to drop despite Detroit being one of the least-policed cities in the whole country. It's the average Joes and Janes who are making that happen, by learning from the mistakes of the past and not committing crimes in the first place -- NOT the harried police force who are primarily there to mop up after the damage is already done.

Nonsense? Violent crime rate is only dropping because there are less targets due to them already being murdered or simply because they're moving into the suburbs.

And how is it that you know this Burt? The experts who study this situation give other reasons for the drop in violent crime. You should publish your study, resaoning anc conclusions and become famous!
