if i were you, i'd abandon the thought completely. if not for you, for your kids, and if you don't have kids, you might want to keep it that way if you move to flint.
this is IMHO only. ppl can disagree if they want, whatever.
i don't personally know a single person living in Flint that wants to be. it's just that alot of them have lost their pensions or can't get enough pay to cover rent and food, let alone save to move out.
and the crime... well.. it's among the worst in the nation. between Flint and Detroit, it's basically hopeless IMO
and this is all IMO, to avoid arguement. but this forum is the only place in or outside of Flint where i've had disagreement on the subject.
cheers! and GOOD LUCK!

Famlife...you're right. When GM left...so did the city income!
The town is a mess, the roads are crap, the crime is one of the highest in the country.
I lived there for 28 years & never regret leaving. I worry for my friends & family still there....seriously!

Flint is horrible. The unemployment rate is over 10.5 % and it is listed as #3 for most dangerous city (Detroit is #2). You would be safer going to Compton CA, Oakland CA, Baltimore MD, Camden NJ, etc..

Flint is not a place to live, I could only see myself visiting the area to see the largest mall in Michigan, within a suburb of Flint...
nvm its not the largest mall

Contrary to popular belief, Flint does have some fun places to hang out (most notably the White Horse Tavern). But, I agree with the other posters - I would never live there. Try one of the surrounding towns like Grand Blanc, Burton (although that has some shady areas, there are some decent ones too), Swartz Creek, etc.
If you simply must live in Flint, stay as far away from downtown as possible. There are some places with Flint zip codes that are basically across the street from another town and aren't that bad - my friend had a really cute house on a nice street just a few blocks southwest of Center & Dort. But the area surrounding downtown is really quite nasty.
