Come visit Westland Michigan, the quietly quaint vacation capital of a generation not yet born.

That was indeed a RUDE post.
Well, while his was a little blatantly rude, your previous post was tacitly rude. Offensive at the least.

People in So Cal are generally different, but not snotty. They are actually far more openly friendly in general than people in Michigan. However it is a shallow friendliness. They will be your friend as long as it is not inconvenient for them. Friendships tend to be more temporary. People move around a lot. Materialism and pretentiousness are a way of life for a majority of the people.
People in California are more laid back about how you dress, but more uptight about what you wear (i.e. brands) and what you drive and where you live. thus, you can wear Crocs to chhurch, as long as they are the actual name brand crocs. Off brands = scorn.

People in Michigan are more reserved and distant, but more real. Even people who barely know you will give you their shirt. Dress tends to be more formal here, but name brands are less of an issue and no one seems to much care what you drive (certain areas are an exception). Once you break through tha hard barrier of suspicion, freiendships are deeper and permanent, just hard to come by.

So it depends on what you call "snobby" - Note: these are generalizations. There are a lot of sincere people in CA but it is not the prevelant personality type. Likewise there are a lot of highly materialistc and pretetious people in MI, expecially n certain well to do areas (but not in all well to do areas).

Second note - we know this from living 24 years in Michigan, 18 years in So Cal, and then returning to Michigan three years ago. Now, I travel between the two places on a regular basis

That is what I meant in my post. In no way did I mean everyone in SoCal was snobby or rude, some were very helpful and friendly. Every single place has nice and not-so-nice people, its just a matter of majority/prevalance. I have never lived in CA, only MI, but the week I spent in CA i cant tell you how many different rude/snobby people I encountered.

I cannot believe people are still surprised or even questioning the differences in the level of "snobbiness" in certain areas. I have known this and seen this all my life. No matter where you go. If you are of a certain degree of wealth you will view others that aren't as maybe low lifes. Whereas, if you are a lower income you will view others as snobby. BFD. Go where you are comfortable and don't worry what others do or who they know or how they act. You are who you are. You are only worried about what others think if you are not comfortable in your own skin

I have lived in Mi most of my life but just moved back from Socal four months ago. I was there for 8 months. I agree it depends on the exact area. I live in the West Bloomfield area and I feel many people in this area are snobby and that includes nearby areas where I have friends like Bloomfield Hills. I didn't get that feel in Socal. Now maybe if I went to Malibu or other areas I would of got that sense. I don't know why people in general have to be like that. Whether rich or poor it does not make one better. Some very hard working people just are not in positions that make a lot of money. A lot of rich people are born into wealth. The world would be a better place if everyone was treated equally and people would not be so into themselves.

Actually, the people I know who were born wealthy are pretty down to earth. It is the formerly poor people who became rich that seem to become a bit snobby. Maybe there is a reason for that. Maybe it is just chance. I only know a few dozen truely rich people so maybe I just do nto have a good sampling

now see i think its the other way around. but maybe just the people ive met. the ones who were born rich and always had their way were not too snobby but are and they are very naive. the ones who became rich after they were poor had some sense in them because they know whats its like not to have money.

but yet again it might be just the people ive met.

No ErikU19, you aren't the only one who thinks "what a dump" when driving down the freeway. I think that all the time.

I think its one of the reason American car always have such a soft suspension
