Default Saline Railroad Noise?

I am considering moving to the Saline/Ann Arbor area. In some of the areas I like in Saline and south of Saline (Milan) I have seen railroad tracks. Does anyone know if these tracks are still used or how often trains may go through? I think it might be the Ann Arbor Railroad, but do not know. Just do not want to buy a house near a busy rail line. Thanks!

Rob

Don not know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that after a short time you ignore the railroad (or freeway) noise. Two places that we lived were pretty near a busy rail line. Guests would complain about the trains keeping them up all night, we said "what trains?" we did not hear them after living there a while. Same with being near a freeway.

However sometimes, when you are struggling to sleep anyway, it will bug you again. Not sure why that is.

These tracks are used a few times per day. I live south of Ford Lake, about 4 miles north of the tracks, yet I can hear the trains on quiet evenings while lying awake in bed as the trains sound their horns when crossing Rawsonville Rd, Willis Rd, and Whittaker Rd.

My youngest son had a good friend who lived only 2 or 3 houses away from the tracks in Whittaker, and spent considerable time at this friend's house. He said they often would not even notice the trains while playing video games and the like.

There are many areas throughout Saline and Milan that would have minimal rail noise, so I would not let that hamper you from moving to either of these areas. My personal preference is Saline -- great neighborhoods, great community!

I think our house was perhaps 1/3 mile from the train tracks, and we occasionally took notice of the train noise, and that was the extent of it.

Good luck on your relocation!
