When you and your parents were living in the city, did you and your parents "take responsibility for what has happend to this city and actually do something about it"? Or did you just leave like a million other people did?

Is it "people like me" that has made Detoilet stuggle to claim 100,000 students? 9-24-08. Go from the 4th largest city to the 12th? I've lived OUT of this state the majority of my adult life btw. Why do you just ignore the reality that is Detoilet instead of copping out and blaming "people like me?" Is it people like me that made the mayor a felon too? Get real man you're living in a bubble.

It isn't a race issue?
After the demise of Northland mall, the BLACKS were insisting that they make Fairlaine mall a "black only" mall. This was about 15 years ago. How would it go over if whites wanted a white only mall? Why do the Latino and Arab areas of the city succeed? Partly b/c they don't throw race into it. Hell, even the mayor used the race card THIS year. You're your own worst enemy. If you call me a racist, you're an idiot. I rent 2 bedrooms in my house, in an all white neighborhood or should I say Hood, to 2 blacks. The diff being they're from Ghana and don't cop out with the race card.

I lived in Detroit for 2 separate winters. I loved it. The people were great. Didn't care for the weather, but that's nothing to do with the city itself.

Then Detroit's citizens' ought to be electing men and women with integrity to lead the city in the right direction. You can't be proud of a city that is sinking in corruption. Kilpatric made Coleman Young look like a boyscout leader.
Honestly, my family has a deep history in that city and it's so far away from the great city it used to be. Leadership is to blame. Want a better city? Vote in better leaders. Make your current leaders accountable. Otherwise, low-life's like Kilpatric will continue to take over your city. Have you thought about getting into politics, young lady? Why not get your feet alittle wet? If not, why not consider joining or starting a group to help revitalize Detroit??

It's not blacks that ruined the city. It is people like you that say bad things about the city that haven't been there for several years like you just pointed that out . It's people like you that tell people not to visit there because it's a "bad" place? Go downtown, much safer and more enjoyable than the average downtown, and don't make a silly excuse saying that i never talk about anything other than downtown. If you were to visit St. Louis what would you go see first? If your an average person, you would go up the St. Louis Arch. Thats the first thing i did on my visit, and i loved it. Where is the Arch located? Downtown. Just like every major city attractions are located. So why do people critisize Detroit saying things like "Ya, Downtown is alright, but the neighborhood's are full of crime and grafiti..." etc. St. Louis is the same way, but people absolutuly love the Arch, so it takes all of those bad things about St. Louis away in most people's point of view. (I couldn't find anything else to do in St. Louis by the way, and when your at the top of the Arch, what is there to see out the window?). Detroit has much more than just one attraction, the city has great 5 star hotel's, Great view from Belle Isle, Great architecture, and a lot more. You tell me one bad thing about Detroit other than its city services and bad neighborhoods and back it up, because all big cities have some sort of bad service and a lot of bad neighborhoods.
