Default Stopping Detroit bashing must start first at home

Cynthia J. Pasky

If we truly want to change the way the rest of Michigan or the rest of this country views Detroit, we must start with ourselves.

Any progress Detroit makes will always be overshadowed by the negatives. That's the way it is. Until that city cleans itself up don't expect pity or special treatment. The majority of the city is a mess. It's been rated consistantly as one fo the most dangerous cities in the country.

The people who live in Detroit need to get out and take care of their own city. Stop looking to people in the suburbs to get things back on track for them. No sugar coating here...

Default Crime

Two boys 12 and 13 were found bound, gagged and shot in the back of the head on a home on the west side of Detroit.
All over some dope and money.

It does not get any more cold blooded than that.
This what people remember about Detroit and why it is a horrible place to raise a family.

Exactly. As much as people want the bad news to go away it just doesn't. Things like this consistantly happen there. And it has given the city a poor reputation.

Mike Jones - On the west side of Detroit? What do you expect it's the inner city. Every major city is going to have inner city crime. I don't think they are expecting people from the suburbs to move into and hang out or pity the people in the inner city for committing crimes against each other. I certainly don't.

I find people refer to the City as a "whole", while, just like any other major metropolitan area, there are good areas and there are bad. I believe that people have hopped on the bashing bandwagon or haven't experienced downtown lately, so they don't see the progress that Detroit has made. We were left with quite a clean up job after Coleman Young left office and we've come a long way.
