I am looking for a place from which to watch the airplanes at Detroit Metro Airport take-off and land. My boys would probably enjoy that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

They once had an area just for that purpose. It may have closed after 9/11

Go down by the old Smith terminal on the lower level. You probably can't stay long but I remember seeing a few planes from there.
You used to go into the terminals by the gates years ago but not anymore.
Unless you're taking a plane, you won't see much these days.

we watch from the where goddard ends. Basically from 94/wayne rd head south to goddard and go east till it ends at the airport. We sit in the parking lot there. You cant see the planes taxi but you can see them once they start to come up and going down. If your up for a drive you can just kinda cruise around and find the best view. Just don't go on airport property. HTH
