Does anyone else have problems finding what they need in these forums? (Detroit: live in)

I belong to a bunch of forums many of them specialise in things unique to the forum. I have had a lot of luck finding help, giving advice in all of them.

Does anyone else have problems finding what they need in this forums? I seem to be able to manipulat eventually to where I need to go, but this site is cumbersome to me. Trying to find the discussions I want seems like a shot in the dark. Am I missing something here?

I get around ok . Sometimes I use the search function at the top of the page and enter a keyword to a topic

It's an excellent forum if your goal is to learn about locations in the United States. If you're a demographics, regional culture, and/or geography junky you'll probably love it It's also good for local area chit-chat. If you're here to learn about whether or not computer processor A is faster than computer processor B then you've come to the wrong place. (I hang out at a completely different forum for that.)

I live in Detroit and I am looking for a new place to find information on local skilled craftsmen, like HVAC companies, handymen, electricians, and so on. I would rather find someone by world of mouth than the yellow pages. Anyone with advice, let me know!

For now Ihave had good luck with craigslist, but I wish I had a good place to find recomendations.

I think your best solution is to start your own discussion and follow the results. If the subject matter drifts, restate the question.
