Default Nice area by VA hospital Detroit

Hi, My husband is in the Air Force and we are looking to retire to Michigan where we are from. I am looking at getting a job at John A Dingle VA hospital. Can you please tell me a good area to buy a house within minimal commuting time? I have a 5 yr old son starting kindergarten this Fall, so good school district is MUST. thanks

Are you looking at buying a house in the City or the Suburbs?

If you are looking for good schools totally avoid Detroit completely unless you can afford private schools.

I'm not really sure what you can afford, but my suggestions for that area would be the Grosse Pointes, it would be a very easy commute down I-94.

You can also look into Harper Woods, St. Clair Shores or Eastpointe.

For the Northern Suburbs look into Berkley/Royal Oak/Pleasant Ridge/Huntington Woods area. They are very nice suburbs and the commute into the city is very short.

For the shorteset commute, look into Hamtramck, you have to pinpoint specific neighborhoods, because some of them are in decline like neighboring Detroit ones, and some people don't like its proximity to Detroit itself. But on the bright side you would only have a few minute commute, I can't really speak to much about the schools though, I am not very familar with Hamtramck Public Schools.
