Coming Home!
I finally landed my job in the metro area and will be home in 2 weeks. Any haters, don't bother telling me about the economy, or the weather. The economy is in the tank everywhere and I like season changes. My wife and I are exstatic to be leaving Phoenix and coming back to the "D". We surely aren't gonna change the world, but when we get home, were gonna be a small part of the solution. Employed, paying taxes, and supporting local businesses. No Wal Mart for us.
Go Tigers!
Go Lions!
Go Wings!
Go Pistons!
Go Blue!

I disagree, A lot of young people are not able to find work in Michigan. When they leave for other states, they find jobs. I know about 8 people who left Michigan in 2006 and 2007 after not being able to find work for 5 months and when they moved to their new state, they found work in about a month.
Welcome Back though.
P.S. GO GREEN!

The people of Michigan can be insufferable.
Anyway, welcome back. I suspect that at some point in the next 20-30 years the luster of the Sun Belt will fade and the fresh water coast will reemerge as a pretty nice place to call home.
I don't want a debate - just making a comment.
Good luck in your new life! Sounds great.

Nah. No debate here. I agree that the "sunbelt" thing will wear off when they see what else comes with it. Not always as sunny as the weather in AZ. Besides, I got a smokin' deal on a house!

I think if you're not part of the solution, then you're probably part of the problem. Even if all you have are positive thoughts, you can be part of the solution. Just keep chuggin' along and do not give up.

That is not fair or intelligent. The author of the post is coming back in 2009 and comments that jobs are hard to find everywhere (in 2009).....and you respond with anecdotal examples from 2 and 3 years ago, of people who left Michigan and found jobs in a month. Well, 2 or 3 years ago Michigan’s unemployment was about what the National unemployment rate is today, which is around 7.6% (7.8%) as of this coming Friday (March 6). California and Rhode Island’s unemployment rate is over 10% TODAY. North Carolina and Georgia Unemployment rate is closing in on 9%. Florida is in the same boat. These were relocation “hot spots” for Michiganders in the past. You also have to consider that many of these places have net job losses, as well as, thousands of new residents relocating there looking for work. Thousands of new residents and thousands of lost jobs in the same states will make it very hard to find employment in these places as well.

I agree. I thought about replying to this originally, but didn't want to start a war. Fact is, even here in AZ I hear about people not being able to find jobs for months. Unemployment is high nearly everywhere and unless you have skills in a certain area, it can take some time to land a job. It also depends what type of job you accept as well. If you've looked long enough for a good paying job, you may be inclined to take a part time job just to have something. I'm inclined to believe some of those "jobs" people found elsewhere weren't exactly what they were looking for.
