And a response from Kwame Kenyatta:
Why Cobo deal works for Detroit | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press
The main goal, in my opinion, should be to do whatever is needed to improve the city. Michigan needs a successful Detroit, and letting race take control of these issues is counter-productive. Whether or not it can be extracted from the debate, however, is suspect.

I am absolutely sick of reading about this racial division in our region, state, and world. Get over it - there are far more important issues to work on; we need peace and unity, not more racist rhetoric. I was born deaf and have experienced far more disadvantages and prejudices in life than most - yet I don't dwell on how unfair my life is or place blame on others; positive thinking and positive actions are my tools. Some of you on this board need a major reality check.

I am tired of left right politics. I am tired of wars. I am tired of poverty. I am tired of the media bias. I am tired of classism. I am tired of racism. I am tired borders created by man. I am tired of greed. I am tired of envy. I am tired of Sloth. I am tired of wrath. I am tired of envy. I am tired of pride. I am tired of gluttony.
We are all tired…..but some of us will continue to fight…..and some of us will continue to stick their head in the sand…..and some of us will continue to try and preserve the status quo.

More corrupt than Chicago? Why is Chicago doing so much better despite its corruption (including the states) which is known as the worst in the nation....or close to it.

Is there a possibility for a better deal? I mean….if the whole region needs an expanded Cobo….and I believe it does, especially the Auto Industry and the Auto Shows future, should not the city of Detroit use its leverage to get the deal that is in the best interest of the City? The bottom line is that the City of Detroit holds the cards……and its exercising its leverage/power to get what it wants (or not). How is that different from what the Democrats or Republicans do when they have dominance of congress and the executive branch of government? They use their power and leverage to get what they want and what their constituents want. When the city of Detroit does this playing of politics and leverage……..they are bad corrupt people. No….they are simply doing like everyone else. Did they inject race into the debate…..of course….because whether white America wants to address continued racial economic inequality……blacks will. I would have a problem with such if there was equality or if blacks had it better than others…..but the fact is that neither the former or latter is true.
I suggest that those who have a problem with how Detroit governs itself should move to the city and exercise your vote of the type of leadership that will make you happy. If not.....****.

What will the expanded Cobo Hall be used for other than the NAIAS? Cost/Benefits?
Currently, "Ownership of a facility (Cobo Hall) that costs taxpayers over $15 million a year out of the general fund to maintain while the city faces a $300 million deficit."
Detroit wanted to sell the Windsor Tunnel which is a Profit Center.
Poor thinking on behalf of City Management.

TWE,
That link is great!
"We have not maintained Cobo Hall. We have not fixed it up nor are we able to finance the cost of expansion."
"Under our ownership, two past directors of Cobo Hall who held their posts from 1996-2004 and 2004-2007 respectively have admitted to taking bribes and pleaded guilty to felonies."

I agree and you can say the same for the country. We spend money we don't have on a personal level and then get mad when government does it. Talk about hypocritical.
I don't even have to get into corporate greed either. If you want to talk about welfare, corporate welfare has probably done more damage to tax paying Americans than the stereotypical welfare mother with 2-4 kids. By the way, most individuals that get what we know as "welfare", don't even stay on it that long. Keep in mind that many people that work get assistance. Ever heard of the working poor? What about student loans and other forms of assistance that middle class people get? What about those that commit welfare fraud, which seems to be, for some strange reason, committed by people that tend to be middle class people that live in suburbs or nice urban neighborhoods. That's the case, at least in my area.

When are people going to take responsibility for their own economic problems?
