Default Dearborn or Hamtramck? (for their ethnic feel)

It seems like people are often interested in DETROIT...and I am not sure if it only just to say they live in Detroit or to have a Detroit address, unsure.

Yet, how about Dearborn or Hamtramck. Basically nearly surrounded by Detroit, but seems you'd have all the real communities and so on, right? I mean, neighborhood businesses, restaurants, services, etc. that you might not find so easily just randomly anywhere in Detroit. Plus you'd get a real strong sense of the ethnic immigrant neighborhoods with great food options, etc., who give that energy and feel to the place.

Anyone lived in either Hamtramck or Dearborn and could get a better perspective on that?

(I'm not too familiar with them myself, but I loved areas that were similar in NYC area, so wondering if Dearborn or Hamtramck might be a bit similar)?

I'd pick Dearborn over Hamtramck. Hamtramck has been suffering a lot of financial issues over the years and it is not the place it once was. Dearborn is actually pretty nice. Great food (of course) and the residents keep things nice and clean on the most part. It's accessibility to i-94 also makes it appealing.

A friend of mine rented a house on Caniff in Hamtramck and we loved it. Of course, at the time we were crackheads, and the best part of his living there was that crack was so readily available, and we could usually find some heroin to help us come down. Unfortunately, I'm not kidding. This was about a dozen years ago though - maybe things are different now? (I'm certainly much better now - clean and sober for almost 12 years )

I live in Dearborn. I love the city. Having never been to NYC I can't compare but I can say that Dearborn is a great place to live. East or West side of Dearborn there is so much to do. Whether you love museums, symphonies or little cafes Dearborn has it all. The community is very friendly.

Welcome Home Dearborn - Home

I lived in Dearborn. It's still pretty stable. I'v been to Hamtramck a number of times over the last 10 years. To me, it's desolate and filthy. I don't even like visiting the area.
