Default Moving to job in Wixom

Hello, I am moving out to MI straight from graduating college to take a job in Wixom. What are the best places around to live? I am looking for a place that has a younger crowd and I don't really mind a commute of 30 minutes each way. I was recommended places like Royal Oak or Novi, how is the traffic from Royal Oak to Wixom? How easy is it to network out there and find people?

Thanks!

You can expect at least an hour commute between Royal Oak and Wixom during rush hour. There will be pocketed backups along 696 and then once you hit the M5, 96, 275 mixing bowl, you just sit all the way through Novi. You may want to look at living in Novi instead. There's not quite the young population as Royal Oak, but at least it will afford you a lesser drive time to work. If you can get used to traffic, I do recommend Royal Oak as it is a great place to live and play.

I looked up on google maps to see the mixing bowl and the traffic patterns that would occur during like 8-9 and 5-6 throughout the weekdays and it seems that the traffic was going the opposite way, west to east, and i'll be going east to west. Have you done this commute? Working out of Boston, I was doing an hour-hour and half each way to go 14 miles..awful.

The aforementioned "Mixing Bowl" is also undergoing a large and long-lasting construction project now (to replace the Novi Road overpass).

I think your best bet would be to try to live near Wixom--perhaps in Wixom itself, Walled Lake, Novi, Commerce, New Hudson/South Lyon, or Brighton.

Of course, you said you wanted to be near young (read "single") people. Novi might be your best bet in those regards since it's more centrally located so that you can travel around the metro area to party. That having been said, the area surrounding Wixom is primarily middle and upper middle class; it's a great area. It's also very close to the beautiful lakes' country.
