Default One last obstacle left in the path to Moroun's bridge

DetroitBlog chronicled the last man in the way between Matty Moroun and his proposed bridge: http://www.detroitblog.org/?p=764

It's cool how Dean Aytes's landlord is still able to fight a powerful landowner. Would it be beneficial if Walter Lubienski, the landlord, wins? Or is it better for Moroun to build his bridge?

Monty870 is on a distinguished road
He's far from the last obstacle. There are dozens of properties on the Canadian side that are in the way because the City of Windsor has set up a by-law preventing any demolition (claiming the homes are historic). In reality, the city is against the twinning of the bridge and are using this tactic to prevent it from being built.

Windsor does not want the new bridge there. Their road system cannot handle the traffic. After a bunch of studies, Moroun was told that he probably cannot build the bridge there. He went ahead and started it anyway. It will be interesting to see what happens.

From our side of the boarder, building a twin bridge makes some sense. They are building the huge gateway freeway project to handle the traffic. Mouron can pay for the bridge rather than the government forking out the money. Mouron is partially done so his expense woudl be wasted if he is not allowed to build the bridge. It would not require tearing down homes and displacing a lot of people ont he MAerican side (like wt would in the proposed alternate location.

On the other side, downtown detroit is generally a terrible location for another bridge. Most of the traffic just passes through. THere is no real benefit to the area except gas stations. The canadians do no want it there, and there is a big Expense to the state to maintain and expand the freeways to handle the truck traffic. Maybe Mouron should pay for the freeway construction and road maintenance.

There is a lengthy study that looks at three or four different options and sets out the good and the bad points for each locaiton. The study is available online, but I have no idea where.
