Not that this back and forth doesn't go on in EVERY thread here, but I wonder -- why? Why come on here and be so negative about Detroit? All you have to do is read through one thread to find that lots of people feel very strongly negative about Detroit.

But my question is: why feel the need to blast EVERY thread in here about your feelings? No one asked in this thread for an opinion about Detroit. It was simply a post to show an article.

Some of you guys have too much time on your hands. Sheesh.

Some people think Detroit is some undiscovered JEWEL of the Midwest.

Some people actually BELIEVE that all is good in Detroit and once the Big 3 are fixed, Detroit is on revival road.

Some people refuse to See the ineptness of some city council members.

Some People think that a few artisans on the cracked-up east side is revolutionary.

Some people want to believe Detroit is merely suffering a "cold" and time will cure what ills the city.

Some people want to ignore the devastation the city has experienced for the past 20 years, that we never really got over OR past the RIOTS, the Colemen Young tyranny, the "there are no gangs in Detroit" speeches, the BLATANT DENIAL that Detroit was stuck in the ICU ward REFUSING any assistance from those who might be able to provide the much needed infusion of life and capital.

I lived there (actually in the city itself) not Wayne County, or some nearby suburb.

I lived in the city. I had to drive into Dearborn for groceries (from Wayne State).
I had to drive out of the city for a night out or a decent dinner.
I had to pay redline insurance rates for my car because 80% of Detroiters have no insurance.

Too much time on my hands?

Not likely...more like too much sorrow and frustration at watching what was a WORLD CLASS CITY (remember Kawame's quote?) in the 1950s become a THIRD WORLD CITY in the 1970s through 2009.

We can say this did it, or that was the reason..
Doesn't matter.

We can say they moved in, they moved out, they stayed.
Doesn't natter.

What we can say, just like Jenny Granmole....

Administration sat and watched it happen.

That is what didn't make a difference..

APATHY and INEPTNESS killed Detroit and now it has a hold of the state and it is dying of the same disease that took Detroit.

I am afraid that when we look closely at Detroit (and Wayne County) we will see a reflection of Michigan.

This is what I have...

GRAVE disappointment in our leaders locally, and state wide.

I personally am SHOCKED and AWED that anyone could have stood (still standing) idle and waited for the ax to fall.

So... your intention is to make sure no one else moves there?

I certainly understand your frustration and disappointment, and your last post seems to show that you have a pretty big spot in your heart for Detroit, and wish that it hadn't fallen so far down the rabbit hole...

But again I ask... why put the city on blast here? On this forum, or in this thread? So that people who are researching Detroit on citydata know that you're frustrated and disappointed with it? You don't live there anymore, and are apparently very happy with that fact.

Just wondering what your motivation is, that's all.

See, I'm considering moving there. From Scottsdale, Arizona even. Gasp! No rose-colored glasses, no "Detroit is great and on the road to recovery!" delusions... just think that perhaps there is something that can be done there. And hey, I'm a social worker - so I'll be in a job for quite a while even if the city continues on it's downward trajectory...

And I also don't have the negativity about Detroit (perhaps you will say "yet" - and maybe we'll see about that)... just think that all of the negative posts really seem to have no point when all is said and done.

My 2 cents.

My 2 cents.

You are so right. Please disregard all previous posts as being extremely negative and without any merit what so ever.

PLEASE..detroit needs caring social workers living in high end six figure houses in Palmer Woods and Sherwood.'

Might I highly suggest--for the truly caring at heart and place in Boston Edison?

Why not be in the midst of this revival of Motown.

Living on the edge like Palmer Woods and Sherwood (University District) is some what weak, is it not?

Detroit is not the border roads or neighborhoods. IT IS WOODWARD and Virgina Park--Boston Edison--NEW CENTER--this is where Detroit breathes.

Lets take it down to Cass Avenue. You all want to see what living can be?

Oh, you would rather be in INDIAN VILLAGE--near Grosse POINTE?

Might I also suggest a 4 bedroom, 3,000 square foot condo at the beautiful PARK SHELDON--from the 8th floor facing WOODWARD one of the BEST views of the THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE one will ever have.

I also hear the brown stones along Woodward near Comerica park are to die for.

People move to Palmer Woods, Sherwood and Indian Village to brag dat dey live in Deetroit...

People live in Boston Edison, Virgina Park, along Woodward, and around Cass Avenue to BE DETROIT...

Anyone can live along 8 mile. Anyone can live at Jefferson and Alter.

Only the truly caring and that have a love and understanding for Detroit will live on Fourth Street and Antoine. Can dream of living on Woodward or in the Cass "Corridor."

You can only see NEGATIVITY? You say my Detroit is not your Detroit?

You fear what I have to say? Hear my words as destructive?

Nay, nay I say...my words are those of a scorned lover.

One who has embraced the tenderness of Detroit

Time and time again

I came back

Only to face disappointment

Frustration

and infidelity

I would love nothing more than to see Detroit rise like a Phoenix (no Arizona pun intended)

I say to all who see the city as opportunity--WELCOME. COME and make it home.

It is one of the greatest cities in NORTH AMERICA.

History --- architecture --- education (except DPS, but hey, bring your kids as well and expose them to a great education at Mumford, Cooley, Northwestern [my favorite])

Or move to the edges, avoid the soul of the city, put their kids in PRIVATE or charter schools cause they won't last a week at Pershing High or Mason.

There is truly a fine line between hatred and love. Sometime it gets so blurred we tend to struggle with what is appropriate and that which is macabre.

I guess the real difference that separates me from all the wannabees--gonna save the city--johnny come lately folks--

Is I have been there and lived it for over 25 years.

And I have seen lot of new inventions and ideas called Revival.

I even remember something called the RENAISSANCE CENTER.

SO as you and tens of hundreds like you march on DETROIT with that gleam in your eye and a tight hold on your wallet and children (tell me they will go to DPS, please) let me know how many invites you get to dinner with the neighbors. Who asks you to play euchre with them or watch the Red Wings on TV on a Sunday while barbecuing ribs and hotdogs.

The Love You Take Is Equal to the Love You Make ... and in the end the love you take. is equal to the love you make ...

Just thought I'd toss a little cheese(y) in with that whine...

And oh, beings other posters are so very positive, just think that all of the positive posts really seem to have no point when all is said and done.

Get a grip, buddy.

I know a lot of young professionals who live in nice places in Detroit City and are very happy.

Why is it sensationalism to tell their side of the story instead of yours all the time?

I mean, no doubt New York City has tons of poverty and crime, but New Yorkers certainly don't focus on it.

And, the way school districts turn around is by having pioneers without kids come in a rebuild the tax base and stabilize neighborhoods.

Detroit's corrupt, failing, and everything else negative, but almost 900,000 people live there. Some have positive stories to tell.

Wow zthatzmanz28. It's seems that you've read a few of my posts and seem to know my whole life story! All of my motivations, everything I want to do... Can you email me my future too?

Although I am loath to want to address most of the many incorrect assumptions you made, I will tell you this: being from Arizona, if we were to move to Palmer Woods or to Boston Edison there would be no "pride" in saying I'm from Detroit... see, my friends and family don't know what that means. Well, what it means to you. Because to me it means pretty much nothing. Congratulations to you on "doing your time," as I believe you put it in another thread here (maybe I'm paraphrasing).

But I come to the end of this still unfulfilled. Tell me again why you need to tell everyone over and over how terrible Detroit is? In every thread? Because you're upset about it?

Maybe I'm just a bit slow, but I still don't get it.

And BTW, the sheer length and volume of posts by you in all of these threads belies the fact that I may've been right in post #5 - you just might have too much time on your hands, being in NC and spending so much time on a Detroit forum. There's a lovely North Carolina forum here on citydata where you can extol the virtues of Zebulon while reminding people that you're "from Detroit"... may be a better use of your time.
