Local Restaurants
The "chain restaurant" thread got me thinkin about some chow...what's the coolest/most delicious/unique/etc. restaurant that you patronize? I'm talking mom and pop places, or even bigger places where there is only one of them. What do they serve, and why do you love it?
I'll start....I love Gus O'Connors in Novi. They have the best Shepherd's Pie

I'll definitely second Blue Nile. My wife and I love it.
Bastone in Royal Oak is great.
Noble Fish in Clawson has the best sushi I've had outside of Japan.
Frittata in Clawson is another fave.

I love Hummus Meditteranean restaurant in Eastpointe. It has great survice, the food is great and tastes like things I've never had before, and they serve it in large portions.

Oh the places I miss...
Steve and Rocky's in Novi-- great seafood, wonderful short ribs, awesome desserts
Big Bear Lodge in Woodhaven-- great ambiance
Piper's in Woodhaven-- best chicken pot pies ever-- stay away from the turkey though...
TV's Deli (AKA TV Diner) in Trenton-- I love everything there, but soups are awesome-- the stranger the name, the better, and the desserts rock!
Pete's Place in Woodhaven (Though technically a local chain) just darn good food...
Kate's Kitchen in Flat Rock has the best pies around-- bring cash though, no credit cards taken
Polonus in Wyandotte-- AWESOME polish food
Sigh. But my favorite restaurant owner here in OH is from, MI-- so he makes it feel like home...

Forgot about TV diner. It is good enogh that my dad will come from South Lyon once in a while just to eat there.
What is the place in Wyandotte that serves Muskrat? I just want to make certain that i never go in there by mistake.
Thank you for the list. We live downriver and really miss the great dining options that we had in California. Options here are comparatively limited. Now we have so places to try.

Olga's Kitchen
I miss Olga's Kitchen soooo much. I was at home Downriver this weekend, and went twice to the one in Southland Mall since I miss it so much. I even got a basket of snackers that I ate at home in Chicago!
The chain I really miss is Mama Mia (I believe it was called) that used to be in Allen Park. We always had great food and great service there.
The restaurants I really, REALLY miss are in my college town of Kalamazoo, MI. Burdick's Restaurant in the Radisson and Olde Peninsula downtown will always bring back memories of good friends and good food...plus, it is still delicious, all these years later!
