Lightbulb Need Moving Advice ! Near Southfield

Hi All,

I've read many forums on this site, great posts so far.

I have a couple ideas but I still need help looking for a place to live.

I work in the middle of Southfield and am going to be out on my own here soon, sadly.

I'm looking for the following in a location :
-Safe - I really would like a safe area, I used to live in a quiet neighborhood and would feel comfortable there.
-Distance - I would like a reasonable drive, within 20 minutes or so from southfield.
-Shopping - I would like to be close to groceries, department stores, I'm sure this goes without saying but just thought I should throw that out there.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Al

I would look in Oakland County, but outside of Southfield. Southfield, while not a slum or anything, isn't very desirable, and has some problems with decay, mediocre schools, high taxes, and corruption.

I'd definitely be looking at the Novi area, possibly South Lyon as well.

Perfectly reasonable, safe, new neighborhoods. Depending on where you're at you'll be within just a few minutes of everything at Twelve Oaks Mall (and I mean just about everything shopping-wise).

15-20 minutes into Southfield. No more than 30 even at peak rush-hour (which seems almost non-existant nowadays anyway).

Thanks with the replies. I have a couple more questions about Novi.

How much is it to rent a 1/2 br apt or buy a decent house in novi? As I said it would be just me, so I have a fixed income- im a bit worried since the average salary was around 78k and i make about 25k less than this

osito - thats why i plan on not moving to southfield - i like to work here, dont think i would like to live here

thanks again

You may also like Farmington Hills. There are some nice apts on Haggerty between 13 and 14. You are close to the mall and M-5. There are restaurants near,Target, and grocery. I think in Novi or near areas a 1 or 2 bedroom would be like 700-850 a month. It depends on the time of year you move and specials.
