Look in the Garden City/Westland/Dearborn Heights area as well as downriver: Allen Park, Wyandotte, SOuthgate. More affordable.

Rename thread 'Moving to Detroit Area' unless you plan on living in the city proper.

downtown detroit is very nice safe area, if you have kids or don't detroit still is good, but the schools aren't very good, escept for cass tech and a few others. detroit's corktown is also nice, along with midtown and hamtramck.

jumpygh is on a distinguished road
If you're going to work in FH, then I suggest that would be a great place to live. Who would want to commute from downtown Detroit to FH every day? Not sure what that person was thinking. And safe? Uh, yeah, it's not anywhere near as safe as FH.

I live in FH and it's a nice community. You could go a bit cheaper in Livonia, Wixom, or Commerce Township. Home values are WAY down, so it's the perfect time to buy.
