Default Henry Ford and Greenfield Village

I finally got to see the crown jewel of the Detroit suburbs. I've always wanted to go to these museums. These two places are amazing, but you must plan two days there!

Don't let anyone tell you that the Detroit area doesn't attract any international tourism. I heard lots of German, and some French. Quite a bit of international tourism. I just loved it. Very bustling I might add, which is good. I was happy to see that.

I took a drive around the area. Drove down I-94 and I was happy to see, in spite of the hard times, signs for new townhomes/condos that I was able to see from the expressway. Also, on Saturday morning there were people walking around Hart Plaza, including middle-aged white people. (reference to Detroits segregation). It looked like they was some kind of festival being set up.

On Woodward in Royal Oak, there was some kind of event, like a parade was going to start or something.

Overall, good impressions, despite the tough times. I'm from the Chicago suburbs, and I must say I think the Hart Plaza/Ren Center area reminds one a little bit of a mini Grant Park/Millenium park/MI Ave. area.

But I loved the Henry Ford/Greenfield Village. I think everyone should go there sometime. Defintely heard several German speaking families (I guess with their auto companies and engineering would make them more interested?)

Anyways, thought I'd give everyone a positive thread!

I love taking the kids (myself included in that ) to the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village. The kids also like the old time baseball games. There is actually a league over on the west side that has several old teams that play against each other.

gofergal is on a distinguished road
I think the other languages you heard are also people coming here specifically for Greenfield Village/Henry Ford. I mean, there are some major pieces in that museum so it's got a lot of important stuff from a historical perspective.

I'm in Chicago right now and enjoying all YOUR city has to offer

Apparently the DIA is a bigger deal internationally than Greenfield Villiage and Henry Ford. I am nto sure why. there is nothing like Greenfiled/H.F. anywhere that I know of. The DIA is a good art museum, but it is just another art museum.

The DIA is about art. The Henry Ford is about the art of industry. Everyone hates us for putting the world on wheels, but art is pretty.
