Can anyone give me the scoop on Mexicantown?

Is there a relatively safe and easy way to get there from the Bloomfield area?

Thanks!

Last thing I heard it is pretty safe, like the restaurants, Mexican Village and Xochamilkos (spelling unsure). I know it's centered on Bagley Ave, but it's not too hard to get to.

You are pretty safe going there, provided you don't make wrong turns and get caught in some neighborhood where you don't belong. The food down there is great. Bagley is located right off of I75. I don't know the directions from where you are coming from, just go to mapquest.com and get directions. For the destination address put in 2600 N. Bagley in Detroit. xochimilco's is my favorite... it's at 3409 Bagley I believe.

The touristy area of Mexicantown is centered on Bagley street.

However, i like to go to the Vernor commercial district which has tons of restaurants and bakeries.

To get there, take I-75 south to the Clark Street exit. Turn right when you get to Clark. When you turn, on your right should be Clark Park, which is a popular hanging out spot for the neighborhood.

Next, the first traffic light you encounter will be at Vernor Street, turn left or right and you will see a lot of restaurants. If you turn right, you will eventual find your way to the touristy section of Mexicantown.

If you go, check out Ste. Anne's Church. Second oldest Catholic parish in the nation.

I just went to mexicantown the other night. it's very safe, and there are about five resturants crammed together, also the area is very cool. all mexican grocery stores, and mexican signs. I felt like I was in cancun.
