don't listen to ANGEL BEAR, evidently she is a suburbanite who travels downtown once in a while and thinks she knows the city. I lived there for 10 yrs,yes in the city. I was a cop there for 10 yrs and know pretty much the whole city inside out. cass corridor is safe, mostly college kids and businesses there. the slowest police precinct in the city. the eastside 7 mi and chalmers area down to harper is the worst area in the city. the 9th precinct is the busiest in the country.

Real Estate is the highest in the country, and property values remain the highest even in this economy.
Not to knock Detroit while it's down, but Detroit has none of the things NYC has, and is in much, much, worse shape than a run-down pre-1980s Times Square district. There are layers upon layers of problems facing Detroit, and it's not as simple as just gentrifying a few blocks.

most dangerous. i'd have to say brightmoor, joy rd. seven mile. southwest detroit. southwest detroit whenever it is brought up to people from other areas of detroit theyre like damn don;t go there without ya heat. that's where most the gangs are. surenos, latin counts, few latin kings, cash flow, g.d's and that's also where the b.m.f. started. also mid-town and jefferson-chaulmers.

South Bronx is only a part of New York City. Detroit is like 80% South Bronx, and with an overreliance on the auto industry.

It's called Little Saigon because there's a concentration of Vietnamese shops there or because it resembles Saigon during the Vietnam war (i.e., a war zone)?

ALL the parts of Detroit is WHACK! Your best bet though if you MUST live in Detroit is off of 7 mile and Livernois. That is where the mayor and stuff use to live. Their houses are huge but old. They are best bet if you MUST live in Detroit.
