Mack, Conner and Gratiot area is IMO the worst area.
Southwest is rough too...Central, Vernor, Michigan Ave...etc.
Junction, McGraw and Livernois on the west side is rough.

roseville is safe, but not super safe. it is not the ideal place i would pick, but i would still live there. it depends on where you live in roseville- the further away from 8 mile (further north), the better. that is where the crime area starts. my fiance worked there for a few years. he said he would definitely live there, but only at 10-11 mile or above.
lots of apartments i would say. lots of homes for rent, too. working-class neighborhood. lots of businesses, stuff to do.
plowing- cant answer that question as to me its all the same. theres gonna be snow on the roads no matter where you go in MI. and no matter where you go in MI everyone complaines that they dont plow enough. its just a part of being a Michigander LOL.
hope this helps!

Where is it safe in Detroit? It's not. It's the second most dangerous city in the country.
What's safe in the suburbs? Troy. It's the fourth SAFEST city in the country. Not bad, it's a big country with lots of cities! Sterling Heights also makes the top 20 list for safest cities.

I grew up in sterling heights. It's nice and it's safe. I mean it's close to detroit by freeway, but no way by walking distance. There's also easy access to EVERYTHING: malls, restaurants, etc. Other areas to consider: clinton township, macomb township, shelby townhip, Harrison township, utica (very small town with a nice historic section, bars, shopping; a community atmoshere) Infact my MIL likes in utica ( she is deathly afraid of detroit), so if she lives there you know it's safe.

I have lived Downriver for 30+ years. I have worked in the Corktown area. Would you consider having to card into the parking lot, fenced in with razor wire, and driving past a dead homeless person on the sidewalk a bad area?

Hi,
I am moving to Detroit. Planning to rent an apartmentapt in riverfront apts. From websites, photographes and all it looks good. However, I've read that there is lot of crime and living in downtown is not safe. On other hand, there are many articles stating that down town has become safer now. Could you please tell me is it a wise decision to stay in riverfront apts or shall I move to suburb ? My office is in downtown.

Riverfront apartments south of Joe Louis Arena?
Detroit's downtown is becoming more isolated from its rougher neighborhoods, so i'd have to say downtown Detroit is becoming safer in that regards.
BTW: That is a neat spot to be living downtown! Take advantage of it!

Akshay,
You will have a great time living in Riverfront Towers. The view is great, and you have access to the people mover via a skywalk. Riverfront towers is highly patrolled and a very safe place to live.
I think that after you spend some time there and get comfortable with living and working downtown, you will probably consider some other options. There are a lot of affordable, safe and beautiful apartments downtown.
To me riverfront towers feels kind of isolated from the rest of Downtown, but still a quick people mover ride to the whole city. Once you are able to have a 5 minute commute to work by people mover, you will want to stay.
