I mean like overall. I heard rumors about 7 mile road being a very dangerous place. Same thing about 8 mile road. But I can't believe that those rumors are 100% true since I don't actually reside there. So thats why I'm asking for what ya'll think.

Seven Mile and Eight Mile stretch out over a few miles. (i'm sure you know that... )
There are some 'bad intersections' along Seven and Eight Mile. One being Seven Mile and Chalmers. It's been my opinion that Seven Mile across Detroit in general is more of the 'rougher' corridor.

This poster is right: 7 and 8 stretch across the entire city of Detroit, so it goes through good and bad areas. As an example, the area between 7 and 8 and between Livernois and Woodward is considered the richest area of Detroit--Palmer Woods, and Sherwood Forest. Definately not a ghetto. But jump on over a few blocks to 8 Mile and Wyoming, and it's hooker central.

7 mile throughout Detroit is a hub for a lot of criminal activity. Gangs, drug dealing, and liquor store on top of liquor store is what you'll see a lot of. Ironically though, it is also a mecca for barber shops throughout the city as 6 mile and 8 mile are to some extent as well. 8 mile road is a much larger hi-way/road than 7 mile and due to that, there is not as much loitering and the such as with the latter street. The surrounding areas of Detroit along 8 mile, especially toward the East side across Woodward can get a little scary for those not used to it. I myself am black and I have grown up knowing about all areas of the city so it is not a shock for me, but in areas like that you can never get too comfortable in your surroundings - things happen in split seconds around here at certain times. One of the most depressing areas in the city tho has to be Highland Park along Hamilton - I've yet to see many other areas, with the exception of a few, that have as many visible crack fiends, prostitutes, and abandoned buildings (abandoned and broken down almost like a warzone.) The crime rate is very high - as a matter of fact I was in the area recently and had just left visiting someone when 3 men were robbed on the exact corner i was parked at less than 20 minutes before. However, much of Detroit because of its high black population just gets blurred under the image of an overall horrific city - which is not true. Though some areas may not be wealthy, and the houses may be over 50 years old, and the city is predominantly black!!! there ARE many areas throughout the city where life is normal. Now I'm on the inside looking out, and other cities are on the outside looking in and may see it differently, but if millions of other citizens before me and all of you all have done it - happily and successfuly...well, there still is hope for the city.

The former 10th precinct used to be the worst. However, everything there that could be stolen, burned or shot has already been stolen burned or shot. The next "worst precinct" was the 9th precinct. Then the PD changed the districting system. They effectively halved the number of precincts. Now, instead of saying "We have 200 cops per precinct", they can say "We have 400 cops per precinct", although I'm sure the actual numbers are much smaller. What they don't say is "The precincts are all at least twice as big as they used to be." So..........Look around here and you'll find some of the worst areas:

Some of the areas around the city airport and its runways are pretty blighted and dangerous. Even the locals seem to be fleeing.

I visit Downtown Detroit once a month and it is very safe...but on the other hand I also visit the UofD McNichols campus for basketball games..and that area is very dangerous.
