Default Driving from Dallas, TX to Metro Detroit.

Has anyone ever made this drive, either to Dallas or from Dallas? We move there in a few weeks. My husband's company pays for everything, but we have a 95 pound Labrador, and the airlines require that the dog plus kennel weigh no more than 100 pounds. Um...right. Not gonna happen! There is also another rule that if the temp. is 85 degrees or higher, they won't let the dog fly. In Dallas, end of June, it could very well be 85+, even at 7:00 am.

SO...my poor husband has to drive with the dog. We've been mapping out routes, but we have NO ideas of any towns, once he gets out of TN or AR. He will need to spend one night somewhere, and it needs to have a pretty decent hotel (like a La Quinta...they take pets).

If anyone has made this drive, I'd love your feedback!

Thanks!

We haven't made the drive from TX, but we did do CA to MI with two cats. I would recommend Motel 6 above any other place - cheap and clean. They ALL take pets and I believe all are under $50/night. They also always have a room in our experience so you don't have to reserve in advance and can drive a little shorter or longer if you wish. Some are a little older than others (e.g. Elko, NV and East Des Moines were a little worn but still more than acceptable), but all meet a minimum standard. When we do a long trip now, we pick up a Motel 6 guide at a local location and plan around where they are located for stops.

Good luck!

Default Second vote for Motel 6

Let us have our dog while visiting TN last year with no questions.

And you can get information on where they are located easily. Have you talked with anyone from petfinder.org on the message boards? Chances you might be able to find someone in the areas you're looking for a layover, or even people who have made similar trips.
