Default If you live(or have lived)in Hamtramck.......

......what do(did)you like about it?
What do you(did you)not enjoy about living in the city?
Would you recommend living there?
Thanks!

I would absolutely NOT recommend living in Hamtramck. Spend a few extra bucks on rent and live in a more desirable area.
Depends on what you're looking for, but I've never known anyone who lived in Hamtramck and liked it - other than my grandparents in the 1940s but even they ended up leaving.
If you're a student at WSU, for example, you'd probably even be better off renting near campus.
I enjoy Hamtramck for its music venues and Polish cuisine, but I wouldn't live there. Way too much crime - very downtrodden. Those aspects have their charms too, I suppose, but not if you're the one who gets mugged or your car stolen.

I loved Hamtramck. The bus line takes you downtown or to the suburbs. Shopping is no further than one mile...walking distance. Restaurants are great. But, yes, the crime is rough.

Great Polish donuts in H-town, right?

Quick question: What's better, Hamtramck or Highland Park?

They're called "paczki", pronounced poonch-key or punch-key

Hamtramck. Less desolate, less run down, more diverse population.

I spent over a decade living in Hamtramck and it was decent. I live in the suburbs now, but would move back if I found a teaching job nearby. If you appreciate diversity and can find a place in a tight-knit neighborhood, then I say go for it.

Hamtramck for sure. Highland Park is inner city at it's worst, Hamtramck is more like a gritty suburb. The Polish Village area of Hamtramck is still nice but sadly you'll see going around the outskirts that it's really gone downhill. Still, it's better than Detroit and Highland Park by a long shot.

South end of Hamtramck is full of ghetto, cheap renters. The city seems to be taken over by even worse ghetto Detroiters in the day time.

Quick question: What's better, Hamtramck or Highland Park?
They each have their own special history. And their own unique personalities. But, for donuts, Hamtramck can't be beat.
