We are relocating and found a house in Avondale school district. I found info on the web that looks like the elementary and middle are good, but HS is the pits.
Does anyone know, is this area on the upswing or is it on a sprial down.
My kids are not yet near HS age, but don't want to buy a house where it may be difficult resale.

I don't know personally but I have heard nothing but good about the Avondale district. The area is generally on the upswing, I would say, but keep in mind you are near Pontiac, which is not.

I heard Pontiac is not a good area. It sounds like they bus into the Avondale school district? Is Pontiac a bad crime area? poverty? What's the deal?

Pontiac is indeed Oakland county's ghetto, as I posted on another thread. I can't propose to know why, perhaps poor city government?

BTW, I frequently drive through Pontiac, and have never once had a problem, or felt scared for being there. Pontiac isn't nice, so therefore I would not, of course, advise someone to live there.

Fairly bad crime, bad city government/planning, lower income area. A few nice neighborhoods, but the schools aren't good. Kinda like a smaller Detroit. Here's some info:

Pontiac was and is a manufacturing hub. Unless there's drastic gentrification, areas close to manufacturing have always historically been the "wrong side of the tracks." This results in cheaper housing which brings in people of lesser means, which makes it less a less desirable area to those with means. And so the cycle continues on and on...
