A new study in the December 21, 2010, issue of Annals of Internal Medicine suggests that eating whole fat dairy products may help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Stephan Guyenet from Whole Health Source blog did a write up on this too. There is still a lot to be studied here, and the conclusions don't necessarily mean that trans-palmitoleate in dairy and red meat (which is what the study focused on as the 'active' ingredient) is the sole reason for the positive markers observed. i'd be more inclined to think that all of the substances found in high quality dairy fat (and especially pastured dairy fat) would be the real reason.
that's exactly why i drink only whole raw milk from pasture raised cows (never pasteurized), cheese with only pure ingredients, organic heavy cream with zero other ingredients, grass-fed whey protein concentrate, soak oats and other grains in homemade raw whey, and eat my fair share of pasture butter with nearly everything.
On the other hand Jack, it could be that all that butterfat and un-checked raw dairy is what's causing your heartburn. Just because it's natural and organic doesn't mean it's good for you. Natural organic snake venom is natural and organic, but I wouldn't recommend using it to flavor your coffee.
Edited to add: I'm not comparing snake venom to dairy. I'm emphasizing that "raw" and "organic" does not necessarily equal "healthy."
Yes AnonChick. I know that raw and organic does not necessarily mean healthy. I've been eating dairy fat my whole life. My heartburn came as a result of a huge change in diet. It's quite complicated. And I've increased my intake of dairy lately and added manuka honey and my heartburn is almost non existent over the last couple weeks.
by the way... raw dairy is checked and regulated more closely than the big 'dairy' companies by a long shot. Don't try to throw out some ignorant slam against my post just because you don't eat the way I do.
