Insulin resistance vs diabetes 2
My doctor said I am just over borderline for insulin resistance. I have to go in for anothe rfasting blood test and 2 weeks later a 2 hour test where I drink a sugar drink.
I have done some research and can't find what I am looking for. Is there is difference between insulin resistance and diabetes II?
I told the doctor I was gaining a little weight and he said it is because I am now insulin resistant and wants me on some glycemic diet. has anyone heard of that or have the same thing?
I used to be able to eat anything and not gain an ounce, I also used to be able to drop 5 pounds just by skipping lunch. Well those days are over.

Diabetes II is caused by insulin resistance. My doc would have just said you are borderline diabetic if your fasting glucose was beyond a certain level. Is this a family doc or a specialist?

Just a family doctor. I fasted and He took blood from a finger prick and a urine sample. He wants me back again for a fasting blood draw, then a sugar test later on.
Would this cause weight gain or unable to lose weight? I am not overweight yet.... but if I don't figure this out I will be. I hope this is the answer so I can fix it.
He said I didn't need meds, that food was my medicene. Well I don't understand his glycemic diet chart. I know it probably sounds simple but it's like 5 videos and tons of pages about foods etc...

Maybe this will help: The Glycemic Index Diet Review (Low Glycemic Diet), Low Glycemic Foods, and More
"Dieters are encouraged to choose carbohydrate foods with a low glycemic index, which tend to be (but are not necessarily) healthier, nutrient-rich, less refined, and higher in fiber -- like whole fruits, vegetables, and beans.
In contrast, higher GI foods "trigger a rise in blood sugar, followed by a cascade of hormonal changes, which tend to make you hungry again sooner because they are metabolized quicker than low-GI foods," explains David Ludwig, MD, PhD, author of Ending the Food Fight."

Maybe I should see a nutritionist. Still confusing to me.... in a way. My Doctor seems real pro south beach diet. I tried following that once and it confused me. I never dieted before or really needed to. But I guess now I better figure this stuff out before I go into diabetes II, although it might be inevitable.

It would shed a lot of light on the picture if they also took insulin levels WHILE doing the GTT. Maybe your glucose levels are not too bad..........but..........your insulin levels are really high. This means your body has to pump out a bunch of insulin to keep your sugar levels where they are during the test.

It is part of getting old somewhat. As you age your body has a harder and harder time PROPERLY metabolizing a diet with a lot of carbs.
I have pretty much the same problem with carbs.
