I am going to see my Dr and have fasting blood work done. The problem is and the reason for my question... My appt. is not until 4pm. I will have blood done after appt., I really am not thrilled about having to fast from midnight on. I called the lab and they said as long as you fast for 8hrs that is enough. So... if I eat breakfast really early and fast for 8hrs during the day shouldn't that be fine?

Thanks

Try to reschedule your appointment for first thing in the morning. I find it more difficult to be awake for eight hours and not be able to eat anything. Much easier to wake up, shower, and go.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But if I'm at work I can get through 8hrs. If it's busy enough.

Okay, but remember you can't eat lunch or have milk/cream in your coffee or tea. No gum or mints either. I don't have that kind of willpower. You're stronger than I am.

Right, it's like water and they said to even limit that but I've done 6hrs so I think I can tough it out for 2 more. I will plan a nice meal for dinner!! I'm not so strong, I can do it ONLY because I know it is a one time thing.

I suggest you to reschedule your appointment . fasting sugar test is important other than normal or regular sugar test. It actually help finding out that what is the aggressiveness of diabetes you are diagnosed with . morning time is best for it, when wake up. and i personally think that one cant avoid eating in 8hr time period and as you are a diabetic patient it may risk you low blood sugar level.

Why not call and ask if you can come in and have your blood drawn in the morning and then maybe they'll have your results by the time you come in at 4. They can draw blood at any time of the day.

Everybody has a before-dawn spike. It's part of the physical signals to awaken.
