my local market sells two types of pomegranate juice--one with a high g. sugar content, the other is Natural Garden brand which is organic 100% premium, no preservatives, no sugar added, no artificial color. the sugar content on the label is 0 g. i like the taste which is more tart than sweet but i am curious is there still sugar in it and just because none is added can drinking a serving size (100g) still be damaging to a diabetic in terms of hyperglycemia?
I would look carefully at the nutrition label. Most juices have some carbs and I sure wouldn't try them.
There is a juice that is lower in carbs. It's by Old Orchard and called Healthy Balance. They have a Pomegranate Cranberry juice that has 5 g carbs per 8 oz. Also a Pomegranate Blueberry Acai with 5g carbs per 8 oz. Other flavors too including plain juices and blends, with various amts of carbs including Apple, Cranberry and even Grapefruit. They are sweetened with Splenda. Tho I rarely drink juice, I tried these as part of a promotion when they first came out and my blood glucose was fine (I didn't drink 8 oz, but probably about 4 oz).
There are several other brands out there labeled 'diet' or 'lite'. Just read the label for the amount of carbs. Almost all use artificial sweeteners but one, I think it was Trop50 juice, used Stevia. I'm not sure of the carb count on that one.
JMO, be very careful with any juice and always test your bg at 1 and 2 hours after having it.
my doc just sent me a letter that my a1c again showed improvement (down from 6.4-6.2-6.0) so much that she wants to reduce or eliminate some of my medications.
im convinced that this is due to my supplementing my meds (metformin and victoza) with natural supps like resveratrol, cinnamon, chromium, etc). ive been doing this since the spring and ive noticed improvements esp in my waking sugars.
i am delighted!! and im recovering from surgery on a lung and have some pain from the procedure so this news makes it better!
one with lunch and one with dinner. But I also take glimiperide around those times and metformin with breakfast and dinner.
