Are obese diabetics healthier?

That train of thought goes against what i've been told by many Doctors, endocrinologists, diabetic nurses and dieticians.the general consensus is get fat get diabetes.
Any ideas about adherence to this topics line of reasoning should be discussed with your doctor first.

My doctor says that obese Type 2 diabetics actually have an easier time dealing with the disease than normal weight Type 2 diabetics, because obese diabetics usually have a variety of unhealthy behaviors that they can change, where the normal diabetic may already be making healthy choices and may not have anything easy to change.

My doctor says the same. He doesn't like treating me because I'm not the 'typical' diabetic.
