Was a cheat heavy week, with only 3 juice meals. I stocked up on waaay too much cucumber and honestly, I don't like the taste of them. I still have 2 more cucumbers to eat...
Also ate lunch with co-workers everyday (M-F), and steak 2 nights in a row so that didn't help.

I'm still amazed I have a net loss of 3.2 lbs for the week despite all of the cheat foods. The fridge is also looking very empty, which is nice.

Default Re: Juicing: A quick diet option, that is safe and enjoyable!

Technically speaking, we DO NOT consume many "toxins". That is only a "diet freakers" pet term, and they love to bat it around as though we're all slogging down a bunch of heavy metals, pesticides and so forth.

(PS: I hold an advanced degree, admittedly from 1984... but still, I ain't no id-ghut on the subject...] in biology, and in pesticide & general toxicology).

Our livers do an admirable job of "detoxing" whatever baddies and drugs we might inadvertently or purposefully injest, but in general, if we eat a sensible, rational diet, you do not become "toxically clogged". As well, the nuttzo idea that our bowels are harbouring a "sheizze-load" (sorry, mods... "SL" from now on....) of clogging bio-waste... how on earth would we be able to function with our colonic walls all coated with toxo-cement?

Yep, we Yanks do eat a SL of fats, red meats, the wrong types of oils, and so on. Not to mention the simple vast OVERCONSUMPTION of same. That results in our generous and substantial weight profiles.

With several auto-immune disorders (arthritis etc.) onboard over the years, I had gained too much weight myself, esp. since I absolutely require steroid therapy on a daily basis (Thx to a dumb-a$$p GP doc 20 yrs ago..). From my fighting-trim weight in high school of 165 (I was on the HS wrestling team..), I weighed, just 4 weeks ago, a tiresome and debilitating 252 lb. (Oh, BTW: please: DO NOT GET ON LONG-TERM STEROIDS if you can possibly avoid them! I'm just saying...).

(CRITICAL NOTE: ABSOLUTELY check with your doc before and during such diets as this!)

Then I saw the video "Fat, sick and nearly dead" starring Joe Cross from Australia,. He works with Dr. Joel Fuhrman, (Dr. Joel Fuhrman Improves Health - Lose Weight Naturally | Reverse Diabetes | Prevent Heart Disease and Cancer | Lower Cholesterol) in putting together a juice-fast diet, in which you can go for a purely juice-only diet, or in my rather more complicated (health-wise) condition, a modified juice & low carb, low fat, low volume, diet. Like this:

Morning:

Mostly fruit juice, 400 ml (≈12 - 14 oz.)

Apple, orange, grapefruit, pineapple (yummm!), celery, lemon slice, melon, etc. Not all these every time, but you get the idea.

One 8oz coffee (Dr. Fuhrman & Joe Cross say "no coffee", but I do limit it to one cup of, hopefully, 100% Kona coffee my daughter brought back from Paradise.....)

One of our own very organically raised eggs (I then feed my chickens the juicer pulp, btw... they luvzitt!) on one slice of very whole-wheat and nut-filled bread. Yup; with regular butter! OMG, huh? (Eat all this slowly! SLOWLY SLOWLY!!!)

Mid-Morning: another 400 ml glass of the juice I made up in the morning.

Lunch:

I make up about 750 - 900 ml (750 ml is a typical wine bottle for you non-metric types...) of Very-Veggie (V^2) juice: bok-choy, celery, carrots, an apple, & whatever looks good & "juicy"down @ my market produce section. PS: Yep: DO go organic if you can afford it!

One WASA Bread type of hard-tack cracker, with thin cream cheese on it. Or some other whole-wheat type of carb, but not more than a small piece. Again, eat it how? SLOWLY!

That's all for lunch; no more!

Mid-Afternoon:

Another glass (≈ 400 ml) of the lunch-type V^2 juice.

Pre-Dinner: (≈ 4:30 - 5:00pm... just to qwell my appetite..)

A Big glass of water, and a small glass of V^2 juice.

Dinner:

A very light meal, (eaten how again? think! THINK!) perhaps a small piece of baked chicken or white fish (or Sockeye Salmon if you're so lucky..) some veggies (as much as you want...), Either NO carbs (rice, no potatoes, no pasta.), or a VERY small serving of that, but without the heavy Alfredo sauce, tons of sour cream or butter, etc.

Again, a serving, large as you like, of your FAVORITE veggie, perhaps lightly stir-fired, or steamed. Or even RAW.

A salad, v. light on the dressing, usually about 2 - 4 oz of oil & vinegar...

And then... OK... A diet dessert if you must. (Not necessarily sugar-free, as that really may be toxic! Splenda™, etc. Just small in size, not one-half of a cherry pie with ice-cream, all on or own! Not all that good for yah! Just go light on any real sweetener you use).

Mid-Evening: (≈ 8:00pm - 8:30pm)

A final glass of mixed veggie & fruit juices.

Of course, drink at least 4 12 - 14 oz glasses of nice good-quality water during the day. Our well water is FABULOUS< but if your's tastes like it passed through a geriatric muskrat first, then you might want to go for a tap filter or for ($$$) bottled water. Water keeps you feeling full as well as hydrating your body to keep things flowing. Add a touch of lemon or lim if you want to, plus som ice cubes. Or if you're well-heeled, go for good club soda water. (No, leave out the Gin...)

NOTE: I also dramatically dropped my dairy consumption, plus non-fish type meats. Not to mention: no deep fried foods, which, frankly, I dearly love the taste of. A good KFC thigh? Hard to beat for taste, and "fat satisfaction". But then, I also prefer to live longer...

Now, some key elements & comments:

1. Eat slowly! always. As in: Don't hog down your food, like those slobbering, drooling, mouth-open chewing (ugh!!!) basketball stars on a MacDonald's ad. What gross behavior! Who was their momma? And it does very little to satisfy your hunger, and you'll then want to go get another burger right away. Or worse: a full plate of those mini sliders!

2. Therefore, give the food time to "Register" in your gut! That does work; fact!

3. You will have to have the willpower to suffer those increasingly less intense and minor between-meal hunger pangs, but they are a whole lot easier to handle than the increasing negative health effects you are suffering from! Or will inevitably suffer from...

The too-tight pants and the gut pains, etc.? Not to mention Type Two diabetes, cardiac disease, or other digestive malfunctions or metabolic troubles? Absolutely you will suffer from cardiac issues, high BP, loss of muscle tone, and so on.

Now, the BOTTOM LINE HERE: just so you know, and to my considerable surprise and delight:

I've lost 17 lb in 20 days!!!!!!!! Fully validated by my doctor's office digital scales in two different exam rooms, plus what I see on my own. NOT: weigh yourself first thing in the morning, sans any clothes but your sweats and top. (or, in "pure combat form", if you can..) Your "dry weight" as it were!

Not only ghat, I'm almost instantly off of three of my very long term cardiac BP meds, and have reduced my insulin by fully one-half, and my pain meds buy about 25%. Frickin' AMAZING, no? And all in a mere 18 days! WOWOWOWOW! Juice is God!

And all without any drama, and.... my stomach is no longer interested in overfeeding at the feed-trough. It's actually enjoyed this light-weight feeding paradigm!

Please; for your own health and well-being: do check this all out (and get the movie on Netflix... it's funny and impressive and inspiring!):

Fat Sick and Nearly Dead | a Joe Cross Film

And then go to Joe's link about the Juice ReBoot™diet. And no, Joe is NOT trying to sell Breville juicers, though that is exactly what we bought. Faulous machine!

I'm VERY serious guys. If you really want to get healthy and to lose a lot of weight and oh yeah; become immensely healthier! (My goal, already 1/3 of the way threre in less than one month!!!) is to be down 50 lb in 45 - 50 days! Then 15 more in the following 2 months, when I "convert" down to a nice light diabetic type diet.

You then do the ReBoot™ juice fast every, let's say, 30 or 45 days, for 4 - 5 days. All very achievable!

This one is not just another "Only Grapefruit and Goat Testicle Squeezings!!!" Wacko-Nuttzo Quirk-a-diet that you will inevitably drop off of! This one is healthy, you feel very good, (better every day, as a matter of fact...) and the weight-loss rate is staggeringly fast but also healthy.

And not one single mg of "toxin" were shed!

Of you go on this or a version of it, please... do DM me as to how it works for you! (AGAIN: NOTE: check with your doc before and during such diets as this!)

Go Juicing! A Santé

If we don't consume many toxins and our livers are effective in flushing whatever toxins we injest, why do we have to go organic? Thanks for your response.

Well, there is a lot of stuff in the literature that the whole"organic" thing is somewhat overblown, but when veggies and fruits are brought in from, for example, Mexico and other Central & S. American countries which do little to regulate pesticides, yes, they do often have detectable levels of pesticides on them.

Washing them does a lot to remove the outer later, but what constitutes a lot of pesticides are compounds that, for instance, modify the growth rate of said arthropods, etc., and have literally no effect on humans. Or change some specific insect mechanism which is unrelated to any of our body functions.

But as I said, the liver does it's job and does, yup, metabolize any residual "toxins" out. I'm just saying we don't accumulate a SL of toxins over time on our livers, colons, stomachs or braions/lungs/hearts, muscles, and so on. And with the only way to get them out then being some wild Grapefruit and Birchbark Tea infusion, or Dr. Duck-Quacker's Patented Super-Constipulol Bio-Toxin Remover, or Super Bee-Pollen Wipe-Clean!

As in....

Personally I think organic is overrated. But the fact that many of our fruits and vegetables are imported is a concern. Now that winter is over, I plan to buy locally grown fruits and vegetables at my local farmers market.

I always buy local, when there are local plants that I want. Tomatoes - I always buy local when they're in season. Same with apples and various salad fixins (snap peas, lettuces of various types, green peppers, onions, etc. etc.).

However, I'm not going to deprive myself of raw foods just because it's wintertime, or because the things I like just plain don't grow in Connecticut. So if that means my grapefruits come from Florida, or Venezuela, or Mexico, or wherever the sticker says it's grown, well okay, that's fine. I'd rather buy it imported from places it -does- usually grow in season, than do without.

Feasting is different than fasting. With feasting you can drink up to a gallon of green juice a day. What I do is mix my juice with coconut water. You shouldn't eat while feasting. You can go 1 day or up to 7 days. Its not for everyone, I'm sure some will poo-poo it, but if you are looking for a change in diet, or want to detox, this is a great start to getting healthy. I get a euphoric feeling about my 2nd day, and total clarity. It wakes you up and makes you feel alive. The longer you go the better.

I have a cheapy juicer so I prepare my juice daily. If you have a high end juicer, like a Green Star you can prepare as much juice as you need at one time.

I started this morning, will go till Friday. You can go 24 hrs, if you want at least its a start, and you will feel healthier.

What I use:

Zico Coconut Water ( Trader Joe's & Henry's carry it )
Broccoli
Cucumber
Cilantro
Italian Flat Leaf Parsley
Green Apple
Pear

OR

You can use any green veggies you'd like. You can tailor it to your tastes.

I mix one liter of coconut water with a 1/2 gallon of green juice. And drink it through out my day.

If you have questions please ask me, as I'm sure I've left out details...I always do.

Is this claim actually true? The second one provides that the juice has to consumed immediately or else the enzymes will die. I'd like to see the studies behind these two claims.

I have a juicer, the Breville juicer that the Liferegenerator uses. I also have a Vitamix. I prefer the later, because I like the texture that the fiber provides.
